réf. A9780198751496Paperback / softback. New. This work claims that physical things consist of nothing but ideas in minds. Berkeley uses this thesis as the ground for a new argument for the existence of God and the dialogue form of the text enables him to raise and respond to many of the natural objections to his position. paperback

1820réf. 31This is anicely bound and readable edition of Berkeley's complete Works. One of the classic Locke/Berkeley/Hume empiricists he had a sharp eye for questionable assumptions. One was the relativity of space argueing that space wasnt a Newtonian absolute like a fishbowl but existed only relative to the perciever. Enistein credits it to Hume who repeated it from Berkeley. He argued against the math of the calculus as being descriptive because of its use of infinities and so on. Berkeley is perhaps as well know for his American interests. The establishment of an academy in Bermuda yo train christian prostelits took him further West where he hoped for a royal grant from the crown in Rhode Island. Being outlasted by the crown he returned to Ireland leaving behind the Colonial philosoper Samuel Johnso.
