Book is in fair condition but 1st state dustjacket is very good having been protected in brodart by the library. Book Condition Notes: Library stamp to the top textblock edge along with a withdrawn stamp and an RFID tag to the front pastedown appear to be the only library markings. Bending to the corners and crimping and wear at the spine tips. But the worst damage is the damp warble to the textblock visible in the photos. Notation in pen to the rear free endpaper appears to be the only writing. Dustjacket condition: Original $24 price intact on the front flap and "Crown Publishers New York 8/11" on the rear flap indicating the first state dustjacket without the bestseller blurb to the front panel. A very good dustjacket with crimping at the tips of the spine panel and a little bending at the rear flap clean and bright. Cline's runaway bestseller in its true first printing form. 2005réf. 005595Los Angeles: Alyson Books 2005. First Edition. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. The third and final volume of lesbian writing legend Forrest's science fiction-fantasy trilogy that began in 1984 with the highly-praised "Daughters of a Coral Dawn" an exodus story of 4000 22nd century women who escaped a male-dominated tyrannical Earth to colonize the planet Maternas. Forrest followed with a second novel "Daughters of an Amber Noon" in 2002 which described the fate of the women who remained on Earth. The work was described as "a tour de force" by one reviewer. This third book is set on Maternas some 55 years later and describes the conflict between the original settlers and the first generation of Maternas-born women the first in the history of humanity with a legacy of ultimate freedom with a standard of conduct that has created a schism between older and younger generations. It is also a novel with considerable sexual content. First Printing First Edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches 197 pages including a brief author's biographical note. Black paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. The dustjacket shows a photographic design of sky clouds and distant hills in varying shades of green with a closer rocky landscape in shadow. Lettering is in green and white on front cover and spine with a single blurb for "Daughters of an Amber Noon" on the back panel. The dj's front flap describes the trilogy; the back flap is blank. There is no price or printing indicator on the jacket or the book. The copyright page notes the copyright in 2005 by Forrest followed by "Published by Alyson Books" with no date of issue. There is a single tiny dogearred page 117-118 o/w boards and text are clean complete and unmarked; binding tight and square not remaindered. The dustjacket shows very minimal surface and edgewear no tears no creasing or chipping no clipped corners. This copy appears to be an advance review or proof copy printed and bound before final details such as price were determined. In any case a hardcover copy is a rarity. An internet search at the time of this writing revealed only paperback copies of this 2005 edition or a later 2014 issue. Its scarcity alone should find it a place in a collection of Forrest's work along with the classic "Curious Wine" and the Kate Delafield mysteries. Alyson Books hardcover

1942réf. 005297New York: Farrar & Rinehart 1942. First Edition. . Hardcover. Good Plus/No Jacket. A great utopian fantasy novel comparable in conception and complexity to Tolkien's "Middle Earth." Wright a law professor and legal scholar created "Islandia" over many years in his free time after his academic duties at various U.S. universities including Stanford Michigan and Pennsylvania. When he died in an auto accident in New Mexico in 1931 he left a manuscript of over 2300 pages plus appendices on a country called "Islandia" The appendices and a book-length general history of Islandia described language culture customs population historic peerage and geography. His wife and daughter edited the work and trimmed it to the 1013 pages published in the first edition in 1942. This copy is an early printing of the 1942 First Edition lacking the publisher's colophon on the copyright page signifying the first printing. The original light tan buckram-covered boards are age and sun-darkened particulary on the spine and along the edges with some minor fraying of the cloth at the corners. The previous owner's bookplate is pasted to the front free endpage concealing part of the Robert Graves-designed map on the pastedown. The front endpapers and first two dozen pages of text show a mild lower corner crease on the thin WWII-era pages; text edges are lightly soiled and stained. Sorry the dustjacket is missing. All that said the book remains the 1942 first edition complete and with the Leonard Bacon introduction. It is basically clean and unmarked still tight and square. A great novel at a decent price. Farrar & Rinehart hardcover
