FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 240 pp. -- with a bonus offer--; With the emergence of conceptual art in the mid-1960s the traditional notion of the studio became at least partly obsolete. Other sites emerged for the generation of art leading to the idea of "post-studio practice." But the studio never went away; it was continually reinvented in response to new realities. This collection expanding on current critical interest in issues of production and situation looks at the evolution of studio--and "post-studio"--practice over the last half century. In recent decades many artists have turned their studios into offices from which they organize a multiplicity of operations and interactions. Others use the studio as a quasi-exhibition space or work on a laptop computer--mobile flexible and ready to follow the next commission. Among the topics surveyed here are the changing portrayal and experience of the artist's role since 1960; the diversity of current studio and post-studio practice; the critical strategies of artists who have used the studio situation as the subject or point of origin for their work; the insights to be gained from archival studio projects; and the expanded field of production that arises from responding to new conditions in the world outside the studio. The essays and artists' statements in this volume explore these questions with a focus on examining the studio's transition from a workshop for physical production to a space with potential for multiple forms of creation and participation. . 2012. 0262517612 . The birth of the Vienna Secession was brought about by collaboration among numerous painters sculptors and architects including Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann. For more than twenty years these pioneering figures mutually influenced each other as they created lasting monuments to the principles of artistic freedom. Published in conjuction with an exhibition commemorating the centennial of one of the pair's greatest accomplishments-the Stoclet Palace in Brussels-this book centers on the collaboration as a means of exploring the modernist movement at the turn of the century. Essays on Hoffmann's designs for the 1900 Paris World's Fair; the creation of the iconic Ver Sacrum building; the 1909 Internationale Kunstschau exhibition; and the history of the Stoclet Palace trace the rise of one of Europe's most fertile artistic eras. Readers will also learn about the role played by other prominent artists such as George Minne Fernand Khnopff Jan Toorop and Frank Brangwyn as they explore the interplay of ideas that marked this important moment in western art. . 2012. 3791351494 . Before Galella celebrity photographs were tightly controlled by the Hollywood studio system and PR agencies; after him shots of stars caught unawares whether stumbling out of night clubs drunk or just shopping for groceries became part and parcel of how we perceive the rich and famous. "My idea of a good picture is one that's in focus and of a famous person doing something unfamous" Andy Warhol once said. "It's being in the right place at the wrong time. That's why my favorite photographer is Ron Galella." Some of Gallela's most famous photographs include covertly or spontaneously snatched portraits of Jacqueline Kennedy Marlon Brando Greta Garbo Andy Warhol Sean Penn Robert Redford Muhammad Ali Madonna Mick Jagger and Audrey Hepburn; often he has paid a high price for these photographs having been assaulted most famously by Marlon Brando and taken to court his pursuit of Jackie Kennedy was so obsessive and relentless that she took out a restraining order. Other celebrities such as Warhol and Elizabeth Taylor who used his photographs in her biography have welcomed his attention. This volume presents more than 100 of his controversial photographs from the past half-century. . 2012. 3775733248 . Hatje Cantz paperback

Over the course of his four-decade-plus career in photography Berndt has erased the routine divide between spontaneous documentary photography and Conceptual artwork. Berndt first achieved public acclaim with his now-famous work Combat Zone 1967-1970 which documented life in Boston's red-light district. At the beginning of the 1970s Berndt pitched commercial iconography of the day-to-day world against the psychology of nocturnal moods with the project Nite Works a series of night-time shots of American and European cities. With his documentations of the anti-Vietnam War movement and of homelessness in America in the early 1980s Berndt put his finger on the unresolved conflicts of his country and photographed them unflinchingly always cutting directly to the emotional content of the subject at hand. Gathering these numerous projects Insight surveys Berndt's work from the 1960s to the 1980s--in single images sequences and series and almost exclusively in black-and-white." . 2008. 3865217257 . With incredible care and attention Neue Galerie curator Christian Witt-Dorring reconstructed four entire rooms by Hoffmann: a girl's bedroom from the Max Biach apartment Vienna 1902 a bedroom from the Hans Salzer apartment Vienna 1902 the dining room from the apartment of Jerome Stonborough and Margaret Stonborough-Wittgenstein Berlin 1905; and the dining room from the apartment of the Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler Geneva 1913. Naturally critics lavished their praises on this exemplary labor of love. The Making of an Exhibition serves as a companion volume to the catalogue for that exhibit Josef Hoffman: Interiors 1902-1913 documenting the painstaking process of assembling materials for these interiors and their final installation. In the process of relating this tale Witt-Dorring shows us how a curator tackles the challenge of bringing such work to life. The result is a publication that displays the work of Josef Hoffmann as it was meant to be seen--in color and as a series of fully realized ensembles. . 2008. 1931794200 . Galerie; Et Al hardcover

Rupf and with an elaborate woodcut headpiece with a rising phoenix and a factotum in the form of a person with a shield and spear. 2 works in 1 volume. 2 70 20; 24 pp. Two rare 18th-century dissertations "Jagdrechtliche Hochschulschrifte" from the University of Tübingen on the subject of hunting in Memmingen and the Bosserhard or Booser Hart the general area around Memmingen between the rivers Iller and Gunz. Free hunting or stalking was permitted in this area based on a 400-year-old hunting law unlike other areas in the German states where one needed authorisation and/or a permit to hunt from law enforcement or the landowner.Ad 1: First edition of a very valuable dissertation for the history of hunting law in and around Memmingen. It discusses the hunting rights in the region of Swabia in the electorate Kurfürstentum of Bavaria Germany. While Memmingen is located on the edge of Swabia these rights and laws still applied to the general area and the Bosserhard in particular. The appendix presents ten rules instructions protocols and/or ordinances regarding hunting activity in the area from the 16th to 18th centuries. The book also includes a beautifully detailed map by Johann Friedrich Rupf showing Memmingen and surroundings including the outline of the Bosserhard.Sayler's dissertation was republished as: "Dissertatio XX" with the same title in Thesaurus rerum Suevicarum seu dissertationum selectarum volumen quartum 1760.Ad 2: First edition of an early 18th-century dissertation by Johann Erhard Kessel giving an overview of historical free hunting rights in the Bosserhard surrounding the city of Memmingen in the region of Swabia in present-day Bavaria Germany. The city and its surroundings officially became a part of the electorate and later kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century at which point all free hunting rights were terminated and abolished. Many conferences were held to evaluate the rights and restrictions of free hunting in the Bosserhard and surrounding area during the 16th century and thereafter and Kessel discusses this development and evolution of the free hunting rights in the region of Swabia. The present copy comes from the famous hunting library Bibliotheca Tiliana of Kurt Lindner 1906-1987 a German entrepreneur bibliophile and scholar on the subject of hunting. IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE NUMBER OF VOLUME IN THE SET: Although Parr & Badger cite 27 booklets there is an error in their calculation: There are 5 volumes in the series entitled Kampf im Osten The War in the East; these are numbered 1 through 5. In the end notes of Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III 'Kampf im Osten' is listed as one title and then each of the subtitles of the five volumes is listed separately making for one extra title. Thus mistakenly the total number of titles as stated in the text and bibliographic description is accidentally bumped up to 27. The actual number of booklets in the set is in fact 26 as shown by pictures on p. 23 of Parr & Badger Vol. 3. Included in Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III. Parr & Badger write "The Winterhilfswerk Winter Relief Fund was an annual fund-raising drive by the Nazis - its slogan 'none shall starve or freeze' - to get Germany through the winter months from October to March. It ran from 1933 to 1945 and was designed to provide food fuel and other items for poorer citizens. As charities do today small gifts were given out to donors.among them was this series of miniature propaganda bookks published by Heinrich Hoffman Hitler's official photographer and approved publisher. They were essentially receipts to show one had donated and with the attached string could be worn on the lapel to make it absolutely clear. Some have intimated that the books were also hung from Christmas trees as decorations although this is not absolutely certain and given as 'stocking-filler' presents. In totalitarian states like Nazi Germany where the leader is seen as the 'Father' of the nation the propaganda machine's ultimate aim is to capture the children indoctrinate them and perpetuate the state ideology.
