A desirable early printing of one of Beatrix Potter’s classic children’s tales featuring her distinctive combination of gentle humour anthropomorphic characterisation and finely observed illustration. Early Warne editions are increasingly sought after by collectors of illustrated children’s literature particularly those retaining their original pictorial bindings. The Pie and the Patty-Pan follows the humorous rivalry between a cat and a dog whose attempts at social politeness lead to a series of misunderstandings over a shared meal. Characteristically charming and subtly satirical the story reflects Potter’s mastery of rhythm visual storytelling and understated moral observation. Frederick Warne & Co. hardcover
