Review: I bought this for my niece she has had hours of joy from these little books. Very good value and a very handy box for storage. Beatrix Potter is one of the world's best-loved children's authors capturing our imagination for over 100 years with her beautifully illustrated Tales. However few people are aware of the fascinating woman that Beatrix was or the achievements she accomplished in her lifetime during an era when ambitious women were not allowed to flourish. An artist storyteller botanist environmentalist farmer and businesswoman Potter was a visionary and a trailblazer and left an incredible legacy. From her first book The Tale of Peter Rabbit 1902 she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her humorous lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood. Since 1984 more than 150 million Beatrix Potter books have been sold around the world whilst over 2 million Beatrix Potter books are sold every year worldwide – so one Beatrix Potter books sells somewhere in the world every 15 seconds! A source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist. Frederick Warne & Co. hardcover

1918rif. 5859London United Kingdom: Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd. 1918. hardcover. Very Good. Beatrix Potter. Publication: London Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd. 1918 Formatting: 16mo pp. 85. Condition Report: Very Good. The original green paper-covered boards remain structurally sound with the delightful pictorial pastedown to the front board still bright and entirely intact displaying only marginal rubbing. The spine exhibits minor bumping and wear to the head and tail yet the delicate white titles are remarkably well-preserved without severe fading or flaking. The binding is somewhat tender but holding firm with no splitting to the joints. Internally the pages present nicely; there is scattered light toning and occasional handling wear commensurate with a children's book of this vintage yet the charming chromolithographic plates including the frontispiece and title vignette remain vibrant clean and free of any tears. Catalogue Note: This is an early printing of Beatrix Potter’s charming countryside tale The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse. While the copyright page states 1918 the presence of "LTD." following the Frederick Warne & Co. imprint on both the title page and the front board indicates this copy was issued shortly after the publisher incorporated as a limited company in 1919. It retains the beloved formatting and aesthetic of the true first editions complete with a delightful chromolithographic plate by Potter facing the text pages. Uncommon on the open market in such unsophisticated intact condition this copy serves as a lovely early example of Potter's enduring work offering historical charm without the prohibitive premium of a true 1918 first printing. Inspired by Aesop's fable of the town mouse and the country mouse Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse transports readers to the contrasting worlds of Hawkshead and a tranquil country garden. When Timmy Willie a country mouse accidentally falls asleep in a vegetable hamper he is whisked away to the bustling city and the noisy rich home of Johnny Town-Mouse. Though they try to appreciate each other's distinct ways of life they soon discover that there truly is no place like home. Frederick Warne & Co., Ltd. hardcover
