This is an early edition of The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin with the endpapers identified by Jane Quinby in her "Bibliographical Checklist" as first appearing 1910-1911 in "Mrs Tittlemouse" and "Timmy Tiptoes". The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin was first issued in 1903 so this is reasonably early and is categorised by dealers as the first edition third printing of 1912. The book is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition with lightly worn boards and a crack to the base of the front joint. Overall the pages are clean and the binding solid not at all loose. Owner's initials in neat pen to the half title page. Two or three pages with child's fingerprints but overall this is surprisingly clean. The front board pastedown in the circular inset is lightly rubbed and slightly scratched. No tape marks are tears while the inner hinges are cracked at the rear board but still really solid. Much better than many of this age and not pulled about by former owner's tiny fingers. A rather nice early edition sold at a price that won't break the bank! FREDERICK WARNE AND CO hardcover
