1909réf. POT-1909-321London: Frederick Warne & Co. 1909 1909. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good. Benjamin Bunny and his wife Flopsy raise a large carefree family the Flopsy Bunnies. When the young rabbits sneak into Mr. McGregors garden they overindulge and fall asleep only to be captured and nearly turned into dinner. Through quick thinking and help from unlikely allies they narrowly escape reinforcing Potters familiar themes of risk consequence and quiet resilience. First edition of one of Beatrix Potters most beloved tales following the continuing story of Benjamin Bunny and the now-famous Flopsy Bunnies. A charming early copy complete with the publishers original grey-green boards featuring the onlay illustration to the upper cover. Internally the book retains its full complement of Potters delicate colour illustrations printed on separate plates throughout the text. The volume is notable for its early gift inscription dated Christmas 1910 framed within the decorative endpapers adding a strong period authenticity and appeal. A further faint contemporary pencil note referencing the drawing location Gwaenynog/ Denbigh associated with Potter is present though not attributable. Condition is good for a working childrens book of the period: Boards rubbed and worn at edges and spine Some handling wear and light marking internally Contents generally clean with illustrations well preserved A solid honest early example of a highly collectible Potter title. Illustrations; Complete with 27 colour plates by the author. Condition; Good. Original boards worn; spine and edges rubbed. Internally clean with light handling wear. All plates present and in good order. Provenance; Early gift inscription: George Cave Day from Mother Xmas 1910. Additional faint contemporary pencil annotations. This title marks a key expansion of Beatrix Potters original Peter Rabbit world evolving from a single mischievous character into a broader narrative universe. It deepens the continuity between stories and introduces the idea of generational storytelling within childrens literature.
