First Edition, vi,[ii],78pp., with half-title, one folding engraved plate showing the catheter, orig. calf calf, rubbed, re-backed. James Ware (1756?1815), surgeon and oculist, studied under Jonathan Wathen and from 1777 to 1791 shared his London practice which specialised in the treatment of diseases of the eye. Ware was the first "bare oculist" to be elected Fellow of the Royal Society of London, a distinction that greatly contributed to the recognition of ophthalmic surgery as a scientific endeavour.

Interessantissimo e non comune, in quanto di uso pratico per gli ottici: si tratta di tavole in scala metrica per misurare le diottrie, con testi di varia grandezza in francese, italiano, inglese, tedesco, russo. In due casi due pagine, in scala di acutezza visiva di 8 e 9 diottrie ed in testo bilingue, sono unite a destra per facilitarne l'utilizzo da parte dell'ottico..
