1787réf. 175389Lausanne: no publisher 1787. First edition published by Honoré Gabriel Mirabeau the son of Victor de Riquetti. The work was originally drawn up by Du Pont de Nemours in 1776 under the title Mémoire sur les municipalités after a draft left by Turgot. The Lettre which begins on page 99 was written by Du Pont de Nemours and the Observations p. 113ff. by Brissot de Warville. The work was reprinted in 1788 under the title Des administrations provinciales. Turgot was opposed to the summoning of the states-general advocated by Malesherbes possibly on the ground that the two privileged orders would have too much power in them. His own plan is found in the Mémoire which was submitted informally to the King. This copy has a manuscript note on the blank recto of the frontispiece: "Cet ouvrage n'est pas de M. Turgot. Il est de M. dupont qui a pris quelqu'unes de ses idées; je suis certaine de ce que j'avance M. Turgot n'ayant rien écrit sur ses operations." Octavo 192 x 118 mm pp. Engraved portrait frontispiece. iv 5-167 1. Contemporary mottled calf red morocco label flat spine richly tooled in gilt single blind rule border to boards flower cornerpieces marbled endpapers and edges. Ownership stamp of the Château de la Roche Guyonne to title page with their gilt coat of arms stamped in the first compartment of the spine; annotation to blank recto of frontispiece and occasional marginal marks in ink to the contents; pale mostly marginal damp mark to first few gatherings; a very good copy. réf. 26923Print. A vintage print of the simplified general overview map of the 1739 Turgot map of Paris. In 1734 Michel-Etienne Turgot then mayor of Paris contracted Louis Bretez to draw up a plan of Paris and its suburbs. Bretez was given permission to enter all the mansions houses and gardens in Paris in order to gain accurate measurements for his drawings. It would take two years. Claude Lucas then engraved the 21 copper plates of the plan in 1736 and an atlas of 20 detailed isometric projection aerial-view maps depicting every building in Paris and one overview map was published in 1739. The simplified general map gives an overview of the sectional maps and indicates their locations in a 4 x 5 grid. This print on offer was printed from the original plates late 1800s to early 1900s. Image size: 32 x 24 inches. Paper size: 35.25 x 24.75 inches on thick laid paper with plate-embossed marks visible to the back. Condition: Light tanning overall roughing to the edges and a moisture stain to the back which isn't visible on the front; image is fine. The print has been stored rolled for many years. Will be mailed rolled in a heavy card tube and shipped the next business day after payment is received. unknown

Items are generally unbound parchment with autograph or typed text. Anne Robert Jacques Turgot was a prominent Enlightenment-era French economist and statesman who is known today for his influential and early advocacy of economic liberalism. Serving as Intendant of Limoges and later as Controller-General of Finances under Louis XVI Turgot pioneered administrative reforms to modernize France's tax structure and stimulate their agricultural industry. This collection of nineteen manuscripts letters and printed documents which span a period of nearly 30 years trace the path of Turgot's career from his early defense of religious freedom in Le Conciliateur through his time as Intendant of Limoges. Further this collection features correspondence with administrative figures such as Deflesselle and Duvergier the latter of whom played a role in secretly financing the American Revolution. Dated September 30 1775 this letter states that a Monsieur Duvergier "shall pay the sum of one hundred pounds in livres and certifies this promise to return the said amount." This may well be the Duvergier son Vergennes who less than one year later would be involved with Beaumarchais' clandestine funneling of funds to the American Revolutionaries. Shows expected moderate age toning with some small scattered adhesive stains on the reverse side and in the bottom margin. Small grouping of closed punctures in near the bottom edge. Item is creased across the center. Signed in black ink "Turgot" in black ink. Housed in a mylar archival sleeve with an accompanying typed translation of the letter. 1 folded sheet ALS from Turgot to a Monsieur Deflesselle 3 pages. In Very Good minus condition. Dated March 14 1775. Turgot writes from Versailles to Deflesselle a local administrator in Paris regarding new research on cattle disease then ravaging the French countryside. Deflesselle is identified in an accompanying early 20th-century catalogue entry as one of the first victims de la Revolution. Moderately age toned and foxed. Signed in black ink "Turgot" on the third page. Housed in a mylar archival sleeve with an accompanying typed translation of the letter. 1 folded sheet unsigned autograph letter in Turgot's hand addressed to a Monsieur Caillard two pages plus address leaf. These reports concern general bureaucratic and administrative matters related to Limoges dealing mostly with the collection of taxes but also maintaining accurate census data communicating with the clergy and coordinating clerks among other items.
