The first article produced on the eve of Indian independence begins: 'Moscow radio broadcast an account of a lecture given by Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Zhukove on "The Situation in India" at the Polytechnical Museum in Moscow.' It proceeds with a summary of Zhukov's lecture the view he expounds including the following: 'Britain's new policy derives from the economic changes which took place in India during the years of the Second World War. India's big bourgeoisie made profits from the war and have become richer and at the same time more compliant towards Britain. The bourgeoisie's fear of the popular masses is greater than their fear of Britain.' The second articles is pure propaganda beginning: 'A vast territory of over 1158000 sq. miles lies in the North-East of the Soviety Union. In Tsarist days it was known as "the Siberia of Siberia." It is now the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic - a part of the Russian Federation - which is just celebrating the 25th anniversary of its foundation says a TASS message.' From the papers of Jimmy Shields of the International Department of the Communist Party of Great Britain. No other copy traced. 1929rif. 3587New York: Macmillan 1929. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Very good . Folio 179pp. illustrated with 51 etchings by John Taylor Arms with an original etching as frontispiece signed in pencil by John Taylor Arms as issued. A very good or better copy in the publisher's black cloth with white linen spine and applied label on front board. Some foxing to extremities including the fore-edge and the margins of a few leaves but really a clean and bright copy internally with tissue guards still present. The matte over the frontispiece is loosened from the etching itself though still bound in perhaps it was issued this way. The only notable flaw is a 2-inch closed tear to the front edge of the title page not approaching any text. This is copy number 53 of 200 copies SIGNED by the author on the limitation page. A truly scarce book as we found just one recent auction record for the signed limited edition from more than a decade ago and no copies in commerce as of this listing. Macmillan hardcover

Very good. - Letter penned in black ink and filling one and a half sides of a cream-colored approximately 8 inch high by 5 inch wide sheet of College of Arms letterhead with the address printed in raised lettering in black at the top. Sir Alfred Scott Scott-Gatty 1847-1918 began his heraldic career with his appointment to the office of York Herald of Arms in Ordinary. In 1911 he was knighted for his services when he was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order KCVO an honor personally bestowed by the King. Scott-Gatty was also a composer. Although an amateur his work was popular and highly regarded in his time. Among his compositions were hundreds of songs two operettas and three musical plays for children with words written by his sister the noted children's author Mrs. Ewing.
