"Tuz Khormato is the central city of Tooz District in Saladin Province, Iraq, located 55 miles south of Kirkuk. The town is multi-ethnic, with a majority of Shia Turkmen and minorities of Sunni Turkmen, Arabs, and Kurds. Tuz Khormato, along with Altun Kupri, Amerli, Bashir, Bustamli, Mahalabiyah, Qarah Tappah, Sulaiman Bek, Tal Afar, Taza Khurmatu, and Yankjah, make up the largest Turkmen-majority cities in Iraq, while Mosul, Kirkuk, Kifri, Daquq, Muqdadiyah, Jalawla, and Saadiyah have significant Turkmen minority populations". "The existence of the Iraqi Turkmen has been ignored for decades. Hence very few researches and publications took place with regard to this nation. (Preface). This book was written with four clear purposes in mind. Firstly to make an assessment of the current situation of the Turkmen in the Tuz Khormatu District; secondly to highlight the oppression of Turkmen after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime; thirdly to introduce a brief history of the Turkmen in Tuz Khormatu to the world; and finally to draw the world's attention to the situation and oppression of the Turkmen in Iraq" (Purpose and Scope). Contents: Introduction.; The Jews.; Language, education, tribes and clans.; Political and religious movements.; Culture and literature.; Historical places.; Social life.; Occupation of Iraq in 2003.; Incidents of oppression of the Turkmen in Iraq.
