1887réf. xxx043S. F.: History Company 1887. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 1st printing. Original dark burgundy cloth boards with bright gilt titles on the spine. 792pp. Bibliography. Index. Maps including folding map. Vol 32 of the Works of Bancroft. This is an ex-library copy which is actually in my view collectable. It has a period printed bookplate of the Sage Public Library of West Bay City Michigan on the front paste down given Number Case and Shelf number where it was shelved. On the back paste down is an unusual bordered check out pocket cut in such a fashion to easily slip in the record card from the side and with the "EXTRACT FROM RULES" print on the pocket with the leading statement "Injury of Books subject the Offender to the Penalty of the Law." Yikes! There is a cancellation ink stamp on the pocket and the card. The card had no check outs listed so either the fine folks of Bay City never checked out a copy of if they did these would be a fresh card! Two small library stickers adorn the spine above and below the title. Small edge chip on rear free end paper else a very good sound copy. History Company hardcover

1892réf. xxx031Denver: The Railroad View Pub co 1892. Soft cover. Good. This publication came in several covers different designs and colors this copy with red wrappers with raised title in blue in a font common to the time. Cord-tied oblong wraps about 10" x 14". Cord is present but the portfolio is detached and thus free from the covers. 40pp.This copy is from "Eleventh Edition" " 65th Thousand." So obviously publisher Thayer was running off for the tourist trade. Nevertheless there are few copies for sale online. Illustrated with half-tones of Pike's Peak Denver Leadville Aspen Victor Cripple Creek and other locations. Nicely drawn vignettes decorate the white border under the prints. Centerfold is "Gateway to the Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak." Other than the above described separation a nice copy good. But note that the tone of red in the photograph of this book is not exact. The Railroad View Pub co unknown

1890réf. 2602027New York: American Book Company 1890. Hardcover. Good. Probably the first printing but no printing stated. Decorated folio cloth. Various paginations according to subject. Illus. Maps are in color. Featured across the top of the front cover is "Texas Oklahoma and Indian Territory" a map of which is one of the US maps. This was published between 1890 and 1907 and we opt for an earlier date. Various countries of the world are represented and all kinds of topics. Good copy but noted is 1 inch loss of cloth at toe of the spine. Slight fraying at top of spine. Some pages have short edge tears. On the title page some schoolboy or girl wrote in pencil above each letter of the word GEOGRAPHY a word that begins with the printed word that becomes this sentence "George Elets Old Grandmother Road sic A Pig Home Yesterday." I have not seen a more charming "annotation" to a title! American Book Company hardcover

1930réf. xxx023South Dakota: n.p. 1930. Soft cover. Good. Original poster 10 1/2" x 18" of farm auction "nine miles south-west of Dodge North Dakota . on the odl Anton Schumacher farm or three-quarter miles west of St. Martin's Church on THURS. SEPT 18." Five head of cattle to be sold plus at least fourteen pieces of machinery and household good. The structures to be sold were a "Good Frame House 24 x 28" a "Frame Granary 28 x 30 a Barn 26 x 32 a Garage 12 x 24 and a Chicken House 14-x 20. A the equipment for sale dates from around 1925 and from the paper and appearance of the poster we believe this auction took place no later than 1950. The auctioneer is likely the same person as noted in FamilySearch 1894-1981 who lived almost all of his life in North Dakota. The poster is very good and has a small chip on each bottom corner. I have not removed the poster from the plastic sleeve I purchased it in. I will assume it is somewhat fragile. Non-media shipping extra. n.p. unknown
