He has received a note from his friend 'Provost Grieve' asking him to 'allow my name to be put on the back of the Greenock Police & Water Bill along with Mr Dunlop'. If this were a formality he would readily agree 'But I find some of my own Constituents have severe alarm about the water part - and I would prefer that you would get some other Member of the House - Mr Bouvene is interested as representative of Pt Glasgow which is to receive the benefit of the water'. On letterhead of the House of Commons Library, 21 February 1865. unknown
ref. 15865Richmond. 3 January 1834. 1p. 12mo. Very good on lightly-aged paper. The letter reads: 'Sir It gives me sincere Pleasure to learn that The Information against you was quashed. The Offence charged does not come either within The Letter or The Spirit of my Act. I am only vexed that you have had so much Trouble.' Taylor's connection with the Metropolitan Paving Act of 1817 led to it being referred to as 'Michael Angelo Taylor's Act' but it is unclear which act he is referring to in this letter. ref. 15757On letterhead of 16 Sussex Square Hyde Park W. London 4 February 1876. 4pp. 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition lightly worn and aged with minor trace of mount on second leaf. Waddy's letter 'fortifies' his own opinions and he would 'certainly not neglect a new opportunity for Grantham which is manifestly attended with real uncertainty owing to the local influence of the Custs'. He feels that rather than being 'given up' Grantham should be 'seriously attended to'. He next endorses the North-Eastern circuit: 'each place is good! - There will be always more causes at Leeds than at al the Mid circuit places including additions & as long as there is a strong Bar business will come there - on the Midland the tendency will be to London & looking to the future I am all for NE Circuit. or all for London & Westminster'. Changing the subject he writes: 'Slave circular requires care in dealing with it In point of abstract law I may be right it was foolish to bring the captains duty to a fast line. Hitherto it has always worked in favour of the Slave - He has always some how escaped & the Captain has always contrived so to manage that he should - Complaints may have arisen but what if sic that compared with the fact of escape somehow!' Waddy 'may have to speak' and should turn over 'the above hint' in his mind.' He is well but his brothers 'have ordered me not to come out'. Note: a response to the "Slave Circular" fugitive slaves discussed in Parliament in this year. On letterhead of 16 Sussex Square, Hyde Park, W. [London] 4 February 1876. unknown

Addressed on reverse of second leaf with Stewart's seal in red wax to 'Mr. Knobel Wine Merchant South Audley Street'. He asks Knobel to 'send a person & a Hamper to pack up three dozen of wine & ale left at the Major General's for the Country as before'. He asks for the hamper to be sent 'so packed & sealed together with 3 dozen hamper of His Mr. Knobel's best Port ready for immediate drinking by the Hoy to Woodbridge in Suffolk as last winter'. He concludes by complaining that while the 'last Port sent was old & good' it had 'too much sediment for carriage or for immediate use'. ref. 15872On letterhead of Rydal House Grosvenor Road Leeds. 12 January 1928. 3pp. 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition on lightly-aged paper. He thanks him for his letter and is pleased to be remembered. 'I have the pleasantest recollections of your kindness and courtesy to an obscure junior and I look back with very pleasant feelings too to the five happy years I spent as a member of the British Museum staff.' He is sorry at the thought of the 'many honored figures' who are no longer there but hopes 'still to find one or two who remember me'. He continues with references to the recipient's 'occasional articles in "Notes and Queries"' and to his 'reminiscence of the good old Quaker miller'. He sometimes meets 'Pollard & J. A. Herbert . at a little religious discussion society' but 'too seldom' meets with 'other old B.M. Colleagues'. On letterhead of Rydal House, Grosvenor Road, Leeds. 12 January 1928. unknown
