1987réf. 884715New York City 1987. One Page to New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan the powerful Democrat who once served in the Nixon administration as an adviser on domestic affairs. In this superb and highly interesting letter the former President candidly reveals his thinking on welfare reform and race relations. In part: " The critics of welfare reform must face up to the fact that the division between blacks and whites is much worse than it was twenty years ago. The affluent blacks have moved upward and outward and have left the ghettos with virtually no hope for the future." In fine condition. unknown

FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- - Corresponds to ISBN: 9780870707193. Text in English. 80 pp. With 34 ills. 24 x 30 cm. -- with a bonus offer--; In August of 1974 the photographer Nicholas Nixon made a group portrait of his wife Bebe and her three sisters Heather Mimi and Laurie--the Brown sisters. He did not keep that image but in 1975 he made another portrait of the four who then ranged in age between 15 and 25. Working with an 8x10-inch view camera whose large negatives capture a wealth of detail and a luscious continuity of tone Nixon did the same in 1976 and this second successful photograph prompted him to suggest to the sisters that they assemble for another portrait every year. The women agreed and have continued to agree every year since. In 1999 when the resulting series of photographs reached its twenty-fifth anniversary The Museum of Modern Art published The Brown Sisters presenting all of the portraits in sequence. That edition is out of print. Now as the family's "annual rite of passage" as Nixon has called it hits year 33--a third of a century--the Museum is publishing a second edition including eight new photographs that bring the series up to date. "We might wish" writes Peter Galassi the Museum's Chief Curator of Photography "that our family included a photographer of such discipline and skill but otherwise Nixon's pictures do what all family photographs do: they fix a presence and mark the passage of time graciously declining to expound or explain." . 2007. 0870707191 . réf. 123547Rochester New York International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House 1975. . Exhibition catalogue 226 x 254 mm; black & white photographs text by William Jenkins; adhesive-bound white wrappers printed in grey minor rubbing front hinge over-opened a very good copy; 48pp. The title of this exhibition refers to 19th century topographical photography in particular the charting of the American West by photographers such as Timothy O'Sullivan. Those included share an interest in the transformation of the American landscape into real estate particularly evident in the work of Adams and Baltz who continue to document these changes. With the exception of Bernd and Hilla Becher all of the photographers were American with Shore the only one who worked in colour. Whilst absent from the exhibition Jenkins writes of the importance of Ed Ruscha's books as an antecedent to the work in the exhibition. He suggests that 'If "New Topographics" has a central purpose it is simply to postulate at least for the time being what it means to make a documentary photograph.' Rochester, New York, International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, 1975. unknown
réf. 190510New York: Warner Books 1982. First edition first printing presentation copy inscribed by the 37th President on the half-title "To Charlton Heston - from one of his fans - Richard Nixon 1982". This is a fine association copy - aside from Heston's role as perhaps the greatest American actor of the early post-war decades whom Nixon clearly admired Heston was a prominent supporter of Nixon's presidential bid in 1972. In the 1950s Heston had endorsed liberal Democratic candidates in the 1960s more centrist Democrats and finally in the 1970s switched to the Republicans. In the 1972 election he starred in a lengthy campaign video explaining how Nixon had secured his political switch. During Nixon's presidency Heston served on the National Council on the Arts and as a cultural diplomat for the State Department. Into the 1980s Heston was a leading conservative figure active in the National Rifle Association famously challenging gun control advocates to take his rifle "from my cold dead hands" and campaigning against affirmative action and other culture war issues. Leaders offers a detailed examination of the relationship between Nixon and various foreign leaders whom he met throughout his lifetime. The book met with critical praise aiding the rehabilitation of his political image following his resignation of the presidency in 1974. Octavo. Original black quarter cloth spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Hinges a little tender rear free endpaper creased; unclipped jacket with light creasing and tiny nicks at extremities: a very good copy in very good jacket. hardcover
