Nixon the 37th President of the United States. This book was published in 1962. It recounts Nixons recollections of six major political situations that required crisis management on his part. Why did Nixon write this book Nixon was motivated to write this book in order to enhance his faltering public image which sorely needed enhancement. In 1962 Nixon was at a low point in his life yet he was planning a political comeback. His efforts were successful because of the intensity of his will and his dogged determination. In just six years he became President of the United States and leader of the free world. Tragically in another six years his character flaws caused him to lose everything. His career started in 1946 when he was elected to the U. S. Congress and to the Senate four years later. President Eisenhower selected him to be Vice President in 1952. In 1960 he was doing well. Then in 1960 he lost the presidential election to John F. Kennedy. This blow seemed to end his public life. The next January after his Vice Presidential term ended he returned home to California. He intended to retire from politics and practice law. E-094; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 458 pages . Doubleday hardcover

Small pieces missing on front at top near authors name see pictures. Clean text. Unclipped $5.95. Protected by Brodart book jacket cover. Vice President Nixon was the Chairman of the Committee. Seidenberg later served as Chairman of he Federal Services Impasses Panel which settled deadlocks in federal labor negotiations. Nixon's first book was the result of encouragement from President Kennedy-- who Nixon visited in The White House only months after Nixon was defeated by Kennedy in the 1960 election--and said that a book would raise the profile of any public figure. Kennedy's book Pulitzer Prize winning Profiles in Courage 1955 greatly improved his public image. Ultimately this book went a long way towards rehabilitating Nixon's image after his presidential election defeat of 1960. Six Crises presents six significant moments in Nixon's political career: the Alger Hiss Case; his Checkers speech in 1952; President Eisenhower's heart attack in 1955; the attack on his motorcade in Caracas in 1958; the Kitchen Debate against Khrushchev in 1959; and his 1960 presidential campaign.
