Title translates as "YIVO: Its Objectives and Activities." An overview of the activities of the Argentina chapter of YIVO in the year 1932. "In Argentina a group of activists organized in 1926 a support committee for YIVO and in 1928 the Argentine Section was formally established which together with the United States uninterruptedly sustained its work until today. In its almost a hundred years the Buenos Aires subsidiary became a reference for Jewish culture in Latin America. From there the IWO kept the Yiddish language alive through courses cultural activities book editing library historical archive and research projects. The IWO i.e. YIVO century of existence was marked by great tragedies. Vilnius' headquarters were destroyed during World War II; the heritage was looted by the Nazis protected by their workers within the Vilnius Ghetto and partially recovered after the Holocaust. Decades later the headquarters of the IWO YIVO in Buenos Aires suffered the attack on the AMIA in 1994 which completely destroyed the building where it operated. Thanks to the tireless task of more than 800 volunteers a substantial part of the documentary collection was rescued" IWO. SUBJECTS: Yidisher visnshaftlekher institut.
