Documented history.= Osmanli madalyalari ve nisanlari. Belgelerle tarihi. Medals and orders are generally considered as significant objects of art and they are an important part of a nation's heritage throughout its history. Furthermore, they symbolize the sovereignty of that nation and honor those who earned them. Ottoman medals and orders symbolize the recent 250 year history and art of the Empire. They are objects of art, symbols of honor and numismatic materials at the same time. The Ottoman Empire ruled a large area for hundreds of years and archival records show that during this time, it issued medals and orders not only to its own people but also to foreign nationals. Since the Empire left its mark on these civilizations over the years, its medals and orders should be of great interest to the people who lived under Ottoman rule during this period. This book is the result of a careful and meticulous 15-year research on Ottoman medals and orders and it is the first detailed publication on the subject.

Papers from the Second International Sevgi Gönül Byzantine Studies Symposium. The designation of Istanbul by the European Union's Council of Ministers as the European Capital of Culture for 2010 was instrumental in the decision to focus on Constantinople in the Second International Sevgi Gonul Byzantine Studies Symposium, which was held on 21-23 June 2010 at the Istanbul Archaeological Museum. The particular theme of the symposium, "The Byzantine Court: Source of Power and Culture," was selected, on the other hand, in view of Constantinople's essential role as Byzantine imperial capital soon after its foundation by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great on 11 May 330. The aim of the symposium was to evaluate, from administrative, political, social, economic, and religious perspectives, the impact of the political power that spread out from the Great Palace and, as of the twelfth century, from the Blachernai Palace to the rest of the empire, and to investigate the reflections of this power in the cultural sphere. Presented in this volume are thirty out of the forty papers delivered at the Second International Sevgi Gonul Byzantine Studies Symposium. The papers have been grouped under the following four section headings: "Byzantine Palace Architecture," "The Byzantine Court as the Center of Imperial Power," "Ceremonies at the Court and in the City," and "Court Culture and Visual Arts.".

2018New English Paperback. 4to. (26 x 22 cm). In English. 660 p., ills. Byzantine architectural sculpture in Çanakkale. Research into the Early Christian and Byzantine periods on the valleys that reached the Hellespont I. When it is asked "What was the importance of the Hellespont in the Byzantine period?". its geographical location stands out. Written data indicate that this location maintained its importance throughout the Byzantine period. According to these data, preliminary surveys were carried out in the region between 1999 and 2002. The data we obtained from these studies showed that both the surveys and the archaeological data particularly on the upper and middle sections of the strait were limited. This creates a serious problem in understanding the relationships between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean at the long distance and between the Marmara Sea and the Aegean Sea at the short distance. To contribute to the settlement of this problem, we conduct archaeological surveys in order to determine the Byzantine settlements on the valleys that reached the Hellespont and to understand the settlement patterns.

The present study in your hands aims to present the times of a city at least at the threshold of the modern times, before the unfortunate events of 1919-1922 through engravings, photographs and postcards. The material was collected over a long period of time due to difficulty of procurement and it was necessary to publish them instead of waiting for new material to be discovered. The glass negatives in the collection of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Istanbul make up a unique set of images for Aydin. Materials presented here include those published in Bitek Topraklar Üstünde Aydin and others and they will facilitate a new access for those who would like to explore the visual history of the city.
