19818vo., Second Edition, with a portrait frontispiece, 66 plates on 28 and 11 full-page maps in the text; blue cloth, gilt back, a near fine copy in price-clipped dustwrapper. First published by Chatto & Windus in 1971. Well-researched and vividly-written history of the legendary seaplane races from the first (Monaco, 1913) to the last (Calshot, 1931). Britain's success in the 1929 event (at Calshot) was due largely to a new Supermarine design powered by an equally innovative Rolls-Royce engine. A few years later this combination gave birth to a fighter aircraft named the Spitfire. Uncommon.

1982rif. 20214London: Routledge & Kegan Paul 1982. NrF/NrF. 1982 Later Printing first published in 1980 in d/w. SIGNED BY AUTHOR MERLIN WATERSON without dedication or inscription on title-page. Profusely illustrated with photographs plans and genealogical tables. The Yorkes of Erdigg near Wrexham in North Wales commissioned more portraits of their servants. than they did of their own family. They also wrote reams of verse praising their staff they frequently corresponded with them and they preserved the inventories and account books giving more mundane details of what service at Erddig involved. From these vivid and human records Merlin Waterson has drawn a picture of life in a squire's household from the early eighteenth century until the present day. With Bibliography and Notes and Index. With spotting to edges; else a near fine copy in a near fine d/w of a SCARCE 1982 later printing SIGNED BY AUTHOR MERLIN WATERSON. . Signed by Author Merlin Waterson. 1982 Later Printing. Hardback.
