19744to., First Edition, with very numerous coloured and monochrome photographs, maps and diagrams in the text, and front and rear endpaper maps, four leaves poorly opened at upper margin, page-edges very lightly browned as usual; cloth, gilt back, a very good, firm copy in price-clipped, lightly browned dustwrapper. SIGNED BY TUTE, COSTELLO AND HUGHES ON A BOOKPLATE AFFIXED TO FRONT FREE ENDPAPER VERSO. Excellent overall survey by three acclaimed naval and military historians. Published to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the landings, the strong and deceptively detailed text is supported by a wealth of well-chosen and captioned photographs. It was the first major publication to utilise recently declassified official records, and also includes numerous eye-witness accounts. Material signed by Costello in particular is very scarce.
19952 vols., roy. 8vo., with many thousands of photographs, illustrations and diagrams throughout, and pictorial endpapers; black cloth, gilt backs, a near fine set in unclipped dustwrapper, the whole set housed in publisher's black cloth slip-case. The definitive pictorial retrospective, based on the 'before and after' photographic technique for which this publisher is renowned. A superb set. Not recorded by Enser.

1994Together 5 vols., 8vo., First Editions, with 31 figures, and 30 folding maps and plans in separate wallets; navy cloth gilt, upper boards blocked in gilt, gilt backs [text volumes], original printed wrappers [map, diagram and errata wallets], a fine copy in the publisher's pictorial slip-case as issued. Admiralty Battle Summaries were written relatively soon after the events they describe (the last of the present collection was produced in 1952) and are based on official documentary material which did not become available to the public at large until 1968. They were written by authors who understood thoroughly their topics, as follows: Operation 'Neptune': Commander L.J. Pitrcairn-Jones; The Campaign in North-West Europe: Commander J.H. Lloyd-Owen; Operation 'Dragoon': Commander W.E.H. Westall. In due course, the volumes became basic reference sources for the authors of the Cabinet Office series of OFFICIAL HISTORIES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR
