A very scarce nineteenth-century edition containing the letters of this notorious medieval love affair smartly bound in contemporary half calf. Very scarce edition. In a contemporary half-calf binding. Illustrated with a frontispiece and vignette title page. An early nineteenth-century edition of this significant work containing the letters and poems of Peter Abelard and Heloise. Originally written in the twelfth century the letters reveal a romantic and intellectual relationship between the prominent French theologian and his young female student and have since become an important historical source providing insight into medieval gender roles and monastic life. In a contemporary half-calf binding.
