In near fine condition with light spotting and toning and damp staining to one plate near the end. Charles X 1757-1836 the younger brother of Louis XVI and Louis XVIII was the last of the elder Bourbon kings of France. A leader of the ultra-royalists and the guiding spirit of the emigres during the Revolution he succeeded his brother Louis XVIII in 1824 and set about restoring the privileges of the ancien regime. His sacre at Reims on May 29 1825 was the last coronation of a French monarch a deliberately archaic revival of the medieval rite meant to reaffirm the divine right of kings. Charles X's reactionary policies provoked mounting opposition and he was overthrown in the July Revolution of 1830 and died in exile. Assembled documentary collections surrounding the ceremony preserve a vivid record of the high-water mark of the Bourbon Restoration. unknown
