Text: "Sir The Committee appointed to enquire into the Detective Branch of the Metropolitan Police Force having now finished their investigations I am directed by Mr Secretary Cross to express to you his high sense of the valuable services which you have rendered as Chairman of the Committee and his appreciation of the very able Report drawn up by it to which he has given his attentive consideration. Mr Cross is fully sensible of the labour and time which you and your colleagues have bestowed upon the Enquiry and I am now desired by him to forward to you a copy of the Police orders of the 6th Instant showing the new regulation which have been issued with his sanction for the organisation of the Criminal Investigation Department. Mr Cross has deferred making this communication to you until the completion of these arrangements which have been founded upon the suggestions of your Committee and he has every confidence that they will lead to good results and will prevent the possibility of a recurrence of the late abuses in the Detective Department.subscrioption and signature".
