1982389 pages. Footnotes. Map endpapers. Black and white photographic plates. "Almost everyone has heard of Auschwitz and Dachau. But few people have ever heard about Sobibor, although the biggest prisoner escape of World War II took place there, on October 14, 1943." - vii. As minimal documentation about the camp remains, this work is based on author's interviews with some thirty survivors scattered around the world. Dust jacket not included. Unmarked with average wear. A sound reference copy. Laska 1014 Book

198524 pages. Grainy black and white reproductions of photos. Text primarily in English, some in German. "I was at Auschwitz from January to December 1944." - page 3. A war injury led to the author being restricted to service on the home front. In 1943 he went to Ukraine to raise India rubber plants to supply Germany's wartime need for tires. When Germany lost Ukraine in 1943, he was transferred to the department of plant cultivation at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institut, which had a branch at Auschwitz. It was only on his way there that he learned it was a concentration camp. Originally written in 1973, this appears to be a reprint circa 1985. Average wear. Some pencil markings. SINGERMAN 1317. Book
1983[12], 277 pages. List of abbreviations. Glossary of Jewish and Zionist organisations. Footnotes. Index. "Searches through the Zionist record - and finds evidence that it sought the patronage and benevolence of avowed anti-Semites and, ultimately, the collaboration of the Fascists and Nazis. In a carefully researched and closely reasoned work, Brenner shows how from the beginning Zionism's leaders were prepared to go to almost any length to achieve the goal of a separate Jewish homeland." - back cover. Unmarked with average wear. Binding intact. A sound copy of this controversial work. Book
1960xviii, 222 pages. Black and white photographic plates. "When the Germans invaded Hungary in 1944, they immediately shipped virtually the entire Jewish population to Auschwitz. Separated from his family, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli [1901-1956] was chosen to direct the medical pathology work carried on among the prisoners by the Nazis for the purpose of 'scientific research' in that most infamous of all concentration camps. Through the doctor's eyes, we relive not only the day-to-day horrors of life in the KZ but also witness the slow disintegration of an empire built to last a thousand years. What Dr. Nyiszli lived through few will want to believe or even read about." - dust jacket. "Tells of events which, though gruesome, need to be told and retold until their meaning for our times is accepted." - Foreword. Tight and square with moderate external wear. Foxing to top edge. Prior owner's details written and stamped upon front endpaper. Name stamped on top edge. Average wear to dust jacket which is now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A sound copy of this important account. Laska 1317, Enser p.114. Book
2005xxi, 346 pages. Index. Footnotes. "Deborah Lipstadt's personal, riveting chronicle of the legal battle with [David] Irving, in which she went from a relatively quiet existence as a professor at an American university to being a defendant in a sensational libel case." Former library copy with usual markings. Above-average wear. Spine leaning. Binding intact. Dust jacket preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart. A worthy reading copy. Book
1944Signed and inscribed by Jan Karski upon front free endpaper. Karski [1914-2000] recounts his experiences when his homeland of Poland was rent asunder by the joint Nazi and Soviet invasion of 1939, and his harrowing subsequent life as a member of the Polish underground, during which he was captured by the Gestapo and severely tortured. Provides a ghastly eyewitness account of life in the Warsaw ghetto, into which Karski was smuggled so his observations could be reported to the outside world. Firearms advocates will cringe at Karski's account of what happened after he and a large group of Polish soldiers handed over their weapons to their 'comrades' from the Soviet Union. In 2012 Karski was posthumously awarded America's highest civilan honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by President Obama. 391 pages. Moderate wear to publisher's red cloth. Dust jacket now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. Binding intact. A sound copy of this truly unforgettable WWII narrative. Laska 672, Kehr & Langmaid 5407, Weiner Library Catalogue Seven 997, Enser p.343. Book
2000xxiv, 179 pages. Index, bibliography, references, glossary. Almost one hundred black and white reproductions of photos and documents. Two fold-out maps. "This study was exciting and personally rewarding to me. I treasure the many Dutch and Canadian friends who so patiently worked with me to reconstruct the events of half a century ago. I still think it highly important that the record of Canadian actions in helping to throw off the Nazi yoke in the Netherlands be accurately and fully told to Canadian and Dutch peoples before we have all passed on. But this publication is really devoted to the 363 killed and 1760 other casualties suffered by the South Saskatchewan Regiment in the Second World War, to the other units involved in the liberation of Kamp Westerbork, but most of all to the 876 prisoners, mainly Jewish, we helped to liberate in Kamp Westerbork, the 4000 or so who passed through this transit camp to hell, but lived, and to the more than 103,000 who did not." - Foreword. After serving in WWII Professor Law [1922-2011] moved on to a career at Queen's University where he established the Business School's microcomputer lab in the 1980s, where this bookseller had the opportunity to meet him. Clean and unmarked with light wear. A quality copy of this important and highly-detailed study. Book
