1933Best.-Nr. 137009Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1933. Final Script for the 1934 pre-Code film musical "Bolero" directed by Wesley Ruggles written for the screen by Horace Jackson Kubec Glasmon Carey Wilson and Ruth Ridenour and starring George Raft and Carole Lombard. A stylish Paramount musical that unlike so many others from its time came with a great storyline. George Raft rises from coal mine laborer to be a top dancer in pre-Great War Europe. While weaving his way through romantic entanglements including a fling with Sally Rand who performs her famous fan dance here he secures his own nightclub at which point he meets the real love of his life Carole Lombard after asking her to audition in her underwear in his hotel room. A pre-Code gem that seems almost to have been designed to push the censors buttons simultaneously one of the raciest and moodiest "A" musicals produced by this studio. Tall self-wrappers as issued stamped FILE COPY and RETURN TO SCRIPT DEPT. / PARAMOUNT PICTURES INC. on the front wrapper rubber-stamped production No. 171 and dated November 8 1933. Holograph pencil notation at the top left corner reading "P 980." Credits on the front wrapper for screenwriters Jackson Wilson Glasmon and Ridenour. Mimeograph duplication side-stapled. A superb set. Vols I and II only the remaining volumes were not yet published of Wesley's Journal presented as a memento of the occasion to Miss Asquith upon her official opening of the new home of the West London Mission at Wesley House. The building included facilities such as a gymnasium creche and library and Miss Asquith delivered an eloquent speech apparently reminiscent of the style of her father. Violet Asquith 1887-1969 was the daughter of Prime Minister H. H. Asquith and a politician and diarist in her own right becoming very active in the Liberal Party and standing for parliament. She opposed appeasement and became the first female President of the Liberal Party and a life peer as Baroness Asquith of Yarnbury. Violet was a lifelong friend and advocate of Winston Churchill despite her disappointment that Churchill proposed to his wife Clementine in 1908 at a time when he was very close to Violet and expected to make a declaration to her; the news led her to go missing at the family holiday home Slains Castle and she was discovered at the foot of a cliff perhaps following a suicide attempt or at least a cry for help. Violet married Sir Maurice Bonham Carter in 1915 and her grand-daughter is the actor Violet Bonham Carter; Churchill and Violet remained lifelong friends though he admitted he had behaved badly towards her over the engagement. 1872Best.-Nr. 2260230New York: David Wesley & Co. 1872. First Published Edition . Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover maroon cloth boards show darkening in spots as well as scuffing edges and corners show bumps/wear and spine tips are frayed. This is the original 1872 publication not a modern reprint. The book contains a publisher's notice right after the preface which states this is technically a second edition as the first being withdrawn before release "in deference to the opinion of friends as somewhat to Frank in it statements for indiscriminate circulation". This is why the book was marked as a first published addition in this listing. There are no signatures no bookplates no library markings no handwriting found. The reason for the low condition grade is because some of the quadrants of pages in the center of the book are slightly offset and there is pulling present. Otherwise book would grade as VG. Pages are toned due to age and there are some scattered foxing spots and a few smudge marks present. David Wesley & Co. hardcover

Reference: Baker Union Catalogue of Publications of John and Charles Wesley No. 26. ~KMP~ 1.0P A remarkably rare early London imprint of John Wesley's celebrated abridgment of the 15th-century devotional classic 'The Imitation of Christ'. Anglican theologian and Methodist founder John Wesley 1703–1791 originally executed a full English translation of Thomas à Kempis's Latin text in 1735 as one of his earliest published works. Following the formal maturation of the Methodist movement in 1738–1739 Wesley realized that his followers required a more accessible portable and streamlined edition focused entirely on 'religion of the heart.' The resulting 'Extract of the Christian's Pattern' was first published in 1741 and systematically stripped of its strictly monastic medieval elements to serve as a daily spiritual handbook for the working-class Methodist societies. Because these pocket-sized volumes were subjected to intensive daily devotional use by early adherents the vast majority were read to pieces. Early editions are exceptionally scarce on the market. Following the 1741 original subsequent editions appeared in Bristol 1746 and London 1753 followed by this rare 1756 printing distributed directly from Wesley's famous ministerial headquarters and chapel at 'The Foundry' in Upper Moorfields. An essential piece of early Wesleyan typography and printing history. John Wesley hardcover
