ref. 101416Good. - A 3-3/4 inch high by 3-7/8 inch wide portrait from a periodical mounted on 6 inch high by 4-3/8 inch wide cream paper stock with an ink ruled frame. The portrait depicts the American pop singer Rudy Vallee in profile greeting 2 women as a man stands in the background. The portrait boldly signed "Sincerely Vallee" in blue ink along the bottom border of the mount. The image is faded and there is an horizontal crease above Vallee's autograph. Good. The American singer musician and actor Rudy Vallee 1901-1986 was one of the first teen idol pop stars. Vallee was also a radio music host and one of the first radio crooners.

Some loss to the mounting board. High gloss photograph is in near find condition with good tonality. The photographer stamp on rear is "A. L. Cross Expert Photographer 745-35th Street Milwaukee Wis." Photograph. This trade show photograph shows a fine collection of pumps Oshkosh handpumps trahern hand pumps red jacket hand pumps and star pointer air lift water systems". Signage also notes that the company is also a jobber of plumbing heating & mill supplies pipe fittings brass goods and hose. The company is not listed in Romaine nor does OCLC note any catalogues by the company. We are aware of at least one catalog produced by the company on the market as of this writing. A quick web search turns up advertisements for the company from 1887 through 1916. Two hand-coloured engraved star charts printed surfaces 325 × 420 mm matted and glazed in matching wooden frames external dimensions 500 × 610 mm. Colour a little faded; a few unobtrusive spots; bottom right-hand quarter of the Northern Hemisphere chart marked apparently with excess paint from the hand-colouring; two small indentations to the frame of one chart; overall in excellent condition. An attractive pair of hand-coloured star charts showing the northern and southern skies comprising Tavola Cosmografica II from Zatta's famous 'Atlante Novissimo'. At the corners are vignette engravings of important astronomical observatories Pisa Bologna Padua Milan Paris Greenwich Kassel and Copenhagen. The astrological figures of the principal constellations are shown in outline and the Southern Cross labelled 'Croce' can be found near the rear legs of Centaurus. 1915ref. 27465Frankfurt: Deutsche Lehrmittel-Anstalt circa 1915. A beautifully printed rotating disk of the stars white on a black field. Approximately 250mm in diameter within a heavily embossed and gilt lettered and decorated framework of stiff black paper boards on the rear is a pastedown of printed information all in German. Very fine very well preserved and still completely functional the gilt with a little wear in places a little bumping. A BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE PLANISPHERE or star-map designed to illustrate the movement of the stars. It provides the position of the stars in the sky for each hour of the year. In the late 19th century these started to become more popular with amateur astronomers astrologists and in pedagogical gatherings.
