1970réf. 9009San Francisco: San Francisco Publishing Company 1970. First Edition. Original wraps. Very Good. 7 X 7 Inches. 23 PP. "George Lucas lives on a hill in Mill Valley Marin County California. He is currently in the final year of his 3-year project THX-1138 a science fiction film which is no 2001 and not Planet of the Apes." Jeff Berner First and only issue of this ill-fated magazine that sought to cover film projects and media techniques in the San Francisco Bay area. I suppose by luck of location George Lucas and his THX-1138 were given the first two pages. The 24 year old Lucas provides cinematography details on the film as well as his thoughts on the state of film in general. The interveiw by Jeff Berner also includes Lucas' hope to do a "Viet war" film titled Apocalypse Now as well as a rock musical about 1954. While tracking the history of early Lucas interviews is rather difficult this magazine is one of if not the earliest interview of his career. Lucas was initially set to direct Apocalypse Now 1979 / Martin Sheen but the reigns were handed over to producer Francis Ford Coppola after the success of Star Wars and the obvious unavailability of Lucas. An important early but post-School interview with Lucas on his projects and career. OCLC locates only three copies San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Northwestern and Utah State. Light wear to edges with a small tear to right edge of cover and first page. San Francisco Publishing Company unknown
1983réf. 9468Beverly Hills CA: Office of Exhibitor Relations and National Promotion 20th Century Fox 1983. First Edition. Original wraps. Near Fine. 8 1/2 X 11 Inches. 42 PP. Original stapled wraps. SCARCE original marketing plan from 20th Century Fox. Includes information on tie-in promotions with the film release by HI-C Playboy Rolling Stone Scholastic Toys 'R' Us Coca Cola Burger King and many more. In addition this marketing guide provides details on the licensed merchandise and contact information for orders etc. The merchandising side of the "Force" has always been strong and this guide lays out the final commercial attack to coincide with a Star Wars film in the 1980's! 20th Century Fox had no idea that the film would resonate so much with fans so when George Lucas agreed to pass up a $500000 directing bonus to attain merchandising rights it seemed safe for the studio to do. However Lucas who had seen the merchandising blitz that came with his good friend Steven Spielberg's Jaws understood the power that films had on consumers. George Lucas' imagination led to a licensing goldmine of action figures play sets posters board games books trading cards costumes and more. It's been 45 years since Star Wars hit the screen and the franchise has raked in over $29 billion in merchandise sales alone and still going strong. OCLC LOCATES "0" COPIES.
