1800Best.-Nr. WRCAM41342Philadelphia 1800. 4pp. Dbd. Stab holes in gutter. Very good. The decision of a committee concerned with a case related to the Alien and Sedition Acts. A group of immigrants having failed to gain citizenship before the implementation of the Alien and Sedition Acts in 1798 although previously eligible to gain citizenship by a 1795 act asked for Congress to pass an amendment to the Acts which would allow them to gain citizenship. The committee upheld the Alien and Sedition Acts claiming them "to be founded on fair and just principles" and that the period necessitated by the Acts is necessary to become familiar with the laws and culture of a new nation.
