1930Very Good Persian Original b/w photograph. 18,5x27,5 cm. Slightly chipped on extremities, a small tear on the upper left corner. Otherwise a good photographic print. Fine large gelatin silver print showing Mohammed Nadir Shah the Afghan King leaving the palace with his military delegation in c. 1930s. A rare photographic image. Mohammed Nadir Khan or Shah (1883-1933), was King of Afghanistan from 15 October 1929 until his assassination in November 1933. Previously, he served as Minister of War, Afghan Ambassador to France, and as a general in the military of Afghanistan. He and his son Muhammad Zahir Shah, who succeeded him, are part of the Musahiban.

The date however may be on the art as may the artist's name be; see close-up scan on inscription. Probably circa 1935. Hand painted in Japan scroll panel art a painting of a brightly-colored Kingfisher clinging tendrils hanging from a tree branch peering into the water seeking his prey. See scan. Image size is 11 1/2" x 2 1/2"; with original matting 15 1/2" x 6 1/2". A bit too long for a single scan; please see all images. The team proudly poses with their dog mascot while displaying a long line of captured booty - 31 event ribbons. One rider wears his team shirt with the letters "L. S. H. R. C." "Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadians" stitched onto the front while the horses are equipped with gymnastic-style saddlery. A 7.5 x 9.75 inch wide photograph titled in negative "Lord Strathcona's Horse - Horse Show Regina April 23 1914." mounted onto a 11.75 x13.5 inches wide photographer's commercial mount with "The Carbon Studio / Ry. St. Regina" stamped at lower right. Photo w. some fading light soil and marks ; card mount w. pin holes at corners glue repair to upper corner and name penciled on verso "Pvt. Green" A proud and capable looking team of professional riders. "Cowboys were called upon again in 1899 when Britain and thus Canada became involved in the Boer War. The Boers or Afrikaners were a unique type type of enemy – an army of prairie veldt ranchers who fought guerrilla-style on horseback. Their logical counterparts were Canada's mounted police and cowboys and in 1900 Donald Smith better known as Lord Strathcona raised a mounted company of 400 men from western Canada half from the NWMP and half from the horse and cattle ranches.
