1930ref. 3711Fairmont West Virginia: Houston Studio 1930. First Edition. Very good. One albumen print photograph with thin black border about 10" x 8" backed onto linen. In very good condition with some creases nicks and very minor discoloration at the extremities but generally preserved. The photograph is somewhat mysterious depicting a group of fourteen young boys and girls another nine who are a few years older and two male adults. In front of the group are four briefcases. As best we can tell these are labeled "Miner's First Aid Cabinet" and the logo appears to be that of the Mine Safety Appliances Company. Perhaps these were young miners and first aid nurses in training or maybe it was a summer camp. Regardless a nicely sized image which captures youth life in coal country during the height of the coal boom in early 20th century America. Houston Studio unknown
