"Foreigner: Migration into Europe 2015–2016 is a photography book that documents the lives of people at various stages of their migration to Europe. The book is divided into three sections focusing on migration to Italy from North Africa migration to Greece and through the Balkans from the middle east and the migrant camp in Calais known as 'The Jungle'. Alongside the photography written texts serve both as a context and a means to share the stories of the people we met during the project. The book was created in response to the imagery used in the media to discuss the issue of migration which we felt was sensationalist alarmist and was not giving people the time and consideration they deserved. We wanted to approach the subject from a calmer perspective using medium format portrait photography as a means of meeting the people at the centre the crisis face to face. 'John Radcliffe Studio' is the creative partnership of Daniel Castro Garcia and Thomas Saxby. We specialise in photography film and graphic design and have spent the last year documenting the refugee and migrant crisis in Europe. In 2016 the book was shortlisted for the Mack Books First Book Award and the Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation First Book Award. 1925rif. H34232Pittsburgh: Trinity Court Studio 1925. Hardcover. Very good. Folio 17 x 15 inches brown cloth stamped in gilt on front cover with 9 photos on paper measuring 13.5 x 9.5 inches the images themselves measuring 9 x 6.5 inches showing the 7 judges individually plus two group photos. Photos appear to be signed faintly in pencil by R. Johnson. On the brown pages on which these photos are mounted the individual judges are identified in Conté crayon. Very good with 1921 certificate broadside from the American Flag House and Betsy Ross Memorial Association declaring Porter a member in good standing 14 x 11 inches somewhat spotty and soiled. William David Porter 1850-1930 was admitted to the Allegheny County Bar in 1872 and served as District Attorney for Allegheny County from 1884 to 1890. From 1891 to 1898 he was a judge in the Court of Common Pleas and as such adjudicated some of the trials resulting from the Homestead Strike of 1892. in 1898 he rose to the Superior Court and was the presiding judge at the time of his death in 1930. Carboncino e matita misure: mm 165 x 225 Pittore italiano del quale si hanno poche notizie, fu attivo soprattutto nel Comasco a metà dell’Ottocento. Nel 1857 affrescò il battistero nella Basilica del SS. Crocifisso in Como; altre sue opere si trovano nel battistero di S. Fedele a Como e nelle chiese parrocchiali di Casasco, Pellio Superiore e Castiglione d’Intelvi. A Nesso nella Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, nell’area presbiterale si trovano dipinti raffiguranti la Consegna delle chiavi a san Pietro, la Disputa di san Paolo nell’Areopago e la Trinità con gli Evangelisti realizzati nel 1864. In questo foglio, che reca la tracce di quadratura per definire le posizione reciproche delle figure, vengono rappresentati tre putti a figura intera. Sono colti stanti in pose ed atteggiamenti differenti; quello di sinistra di profilo ma con il busto e il volto rivolti verso lo spettatore, diversi ripensamenti dell'artista alla ricerca dell'esatta posizione del braccio destro forse pensato per tenere uno strumento. Il putto centrale è colto frontalmente, con la gamba sinistra avanti rispetto l'altra, fissa lo spettatore e sembra, con il gesto della mano sinistra protesa in avanti, lo stia invitando. Il putto a destra è di profilo, molti sono i ripensamenti di braccia e volto, sembra tenere tra le mani un flauto. Disegno eseguito su cartoncino ocra. Ottimo stato di conservazione.

L'uomo non è indagato nel volto, lasciato allo stato di abbozzo, l'autore si concentra sullo studio dei movimenti della veste. Questa tunica avvolge completamente il soggetto e cade pesante sul suo corpo; il braccio sinistro piegato alla vita regge parte della veste lasciando così visibili le caviglie e i piedi nudi. Attraverso una fitta intersezione di linee si vengono a creare giochi chiaroscurali che rendono tangibile il tessuto. La figura nella sua maestosa ieraticità sembra una scultura di un filosofo o un magistrato romano. Disegno eseguito su carta bianca spessa. Ottimo stato di conservazione.
