1920Best.-Nr. 7923Thomaston GA: Trice - photographer 1920. Very good . One photograph measuring about 9.5" x 7.5" housed in a contemporary mat and somewhat later frame. The photograph is in excellent condition though it has come slightly loosened from the mat. We have not endeavored to open the back of the frame to either fix or examine it. In the center of the image is a large passenger railcar with the locomotive in the background if any identifying markings are present we cannot read them. Posing in front is a group of nearly two dozen businessmen in suits all posing next to a sign reading "Goodrich Silvertowns" which were a popular white wall tire during the 1910s and 1920s which would seem to date this photograph. The photograph is credited on the bottom right corner to Trice Studio in Thomaston GA which is likely the general area in which the photograph was taken. Though slightly mysterious a nicely-sized photograph of a train taken in the rural south. [Trice - photographer] unknown
1930Best.-Nr. 3711Fairmont West Virginia: Houston Studio 1930. First Edition. Very good. One albumen print photograph with thin black border about 10" x 8" backed onto linen. In very good condition with some creases nicks and very minor discoloration at the extremities but generally preserved. The photograph is somewhat mysterious depicting a group of fourteen young boys and girls another nine who are a few years older and two male adults. In front of the group are four briefcases. As best we can tell these are labeled "Miner's First Aid Cabinet" and the logo appears to be that of the Mine Safety Appliances Company. Perhaps these were young miners and first aid nurses in training or maybe it was a summer camp. Regardless a nicely sized image which captures youth life in coal country during the height of the coal boom in early 20th century America. Houston Studio unknown

1920Best.-Nr. 97240Prescott AZ: Bate Studio circa 1920's. 1920's. Very good. - Eight original real photo postcards by Bate Studio each measuring 3-1/2 inches high by 5-1/2 inches wide depicting scenes from the "Prescott Arizona. Frontier Days" rodeo & performances. The images predominantly depict bronco riding and cattle roping with 2 images depicting Native Americans. The postcards are each identified in white together with the name "Bate" at the bottom of the image. For the most part the white print is very difficult to read. The postcards are also numbered as follows: 11 21 39 50 53 54 57 70. There are creases to the top corners of the postcard numbered 11 and bottom corners of number 54 with minor bumping to the corners of the other postcards. There is some occasional minor soiling. Very good. The first organized rodeo was probably held in Cheyenne Wyoming in 1872. Prescott Arizona claims to have held the first "professional" rodeo charging admission and awarding trophies in 1888. Prescott, AZ: Bate Studio, circa [1920's]. unknown

1942Best.-Nr. WALTER-FILM006912New York: Ivan Black New Color Studio 1942-1945. Set of three vintage original 8 x 10" 20 x 25 cm. black-and-white print still photos. Date stamps agency information and paper blurbs attached to two photos. Minor wear with one showing wrinkling at top and bottom blank white margins. Overall near fine. These portraits including one of Hazel Scott at the piano capture her effervescent sassy and charismatic personality which made her a top favorite for radio film and -- what one of the image's attached paper blurb indicates -- star of Café Society Uptown. She performed as the resident pianist/vocalist for five years by 1945 and earned a place at the top of show biz. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago Scott moved to the US and was a child prodigy. The classic and jazz musician became one of America's premier pianists of her time. One portrait announces her marriage to Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Two are agency portraits while the third shows her at the piano. Ivan Scott, New Color Studio
