Gift inscription from an N.L. Thacker on verso of title page dated 1914; child's ownership inscription on verso of final plate "Ermy Tharp Novato Cal" dated 1936. Rubbing and wear to board edges; internally clean and sound - a Very Good copy with all plates present. An attractive Meiji Era souvenir album with subtly hand-tinted collotype plates depicting a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. One of several editions produced between 1906 and 1920; per the excellent bibliography of Tamamura's souvenir albums at ours would appear to be the Third Edition of 1910. The vanishingly scarce first collaboration between the celebrated artists Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden. One of the earliest examples of their impressive artwork being an advertisement for Christmas gift books from 'The Studio'. The first edition. A vanishingly scarce piece of art history being the first ever collaboration between Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden. Not held by any institutional library. Illustrated with their dual tone wood engraving to the title page and six pages of dual tone wood engraved vignettes. Collated complete. An advertisement insert for the December issue for 'The Studio' advertising a number of Christmas gift books published by 'The Studio' and other notable publishers. 'The Studio' was an illustrated art magazine and publisher of art and design works. This advertisement is one of the earliest known published works for the noted artists Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden and is the first collaboration between the two made while the two were still studying at the 'Royal College of Art'. Both Bawden and Ravilious are notable artists from the first half of the twentieth century being renowned for their work as war artists during WWII. A rare prospectus for announcing the forthcoming publication of 'The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine of Fine and Applied Art' which was an illustrated fine arts and decorative arts magazine published in London from 1893 until 1964. The founder and first editor was Charles Holme. The magazine exerted a major influence on the development of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements.
