réf. 11562Hood's letter: On letterhead of Osborne Isle of Wight. 8 January 1891. Mrs Gye's draft reply: without place or date. Both items good on lightly-aged paper. Rosa Hood's sister Adelaide Fanny was the wife of Herbert F. Gye and letter and reply are written informally. Hood's letter: 3pp. 12mo. She received Mrs Gye's letter that morning 'and the Queen has read it' and is 'quite pleased with your reply'. 'The Queen desired me to assure you that she had never for a moment supposed that you were responsible for the article in the newspaper - only the Queen thought it was better to have the matter mentioned to you - especially as it might be copied into other papers.' The Queen also thinks that Mrs Gye should 'have some contradiction put in the Paper'. Mrs Gye's draft reply: 2pp. 12mo. She writes that she cannot express her relief at the contents of Hood's letter. 'Since your first letter the thought that Her Majesty would be displeased about it has troubled me very much - therefore you can imagine how delighted I am to find the Queen did not imagine I was responsible.' She has 'written to Church Journal to deny the authorship of the article and ask them to publish it'. Hood's letter: On letterhead of Osborne [Isle of Wight]. 8 January 1891. Mrs Gye's draft reply: without place or date. unknown
réf. 222466 October 1913; on letterhead of 55 York Terrace Regent's Park N.W. 2pp 12mo; and 1p 8vo. On a bifolium with the 8vo page written lengthwise across the central pages. In good condition lightly aged and worn. Folded twice. Signed 'Percy Anderson.' According to a pencil note Broadhurst was Beerbohm Tree's 'press agent'. He has received Broadhurst's letter late the same night and begins by informing him that he cannot go to Covent Garden the following day as he will be with a sitter. He continues: 'As I implied to you in my last letter it seems almost impossible for me to give you details of the costumes to be worn in “Joan of Arc.” Period Charles XII of France he reigned from 1403 to 1461. The dresses are of necessity tremendously fantastic & in designing them I have endeavoured to make them historically correct. Therefore what else can I say about them' Were the dresses 'fanciful' it would be easy for Anderson to describe them but 'as it is they must be rather on conventional lines'. He concludes: 'I hate to appear discourteous & if I cld. be of any use to you or to Mr. Eyles I wld. but I think you will readily understand the difficulty'. 6 October 1913; on letterhead of 55 York Terrace, Regent's Park, N.W. unknown

The letter concerns an article on the conductor Karl Rankl and begins: 'Dear Erich I have just spoken to Harewood the Earl of Harewood co-founder with Buckle of 'Opera' magazine. He would like you to do it but thinks the Rankl's sic friend had better have the job as they seem to have chosen him. What a pity! I was looking forward to your mellow cadences.'
