Being an ardent socialist Crane helpfully added political 'morals' to the end of each poem in addition to his stunning Arts and Crafts illustrations. Written by William James Linton based on stories attributed to Aesop and lightly edited by Walter Crane; illustrated by Crane; engraved and printed by Edmund Evans. 56 pages; color and monochrome illustrations throughout decorative endpapers by the artist; 7.5 x 7.25 inches. Crane 1845-1915 was an English artist and book illustrator. He is considered to be the most influential and among the most prolific children's book creators of his generation. Evans 1826-1905 was a wood-engraver and printer who specialized in full-color printing which in part because of his work became popular in the mid-19th century. He employed and collaborated with illustrators including Crane to produce what are now considered to be classic children's books. George Routledge & Sons hardcover
