Furniture and Interiors is a comprehensive account of Le Corbusier’s extensive work in furniture and interior design. As a young architect Swiss-born Charles-Edouard Jeanneret primarily worked in designed furnishings. After he moved to Paris in the early 1920s and adopted his now famous moniker Le Corbusier developed a particular interest in équipement a term he coined for the essential furnishings of a residence. He focused specifically on tables cabinets and eventually the chrome and leather chairsâdesigned in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriandâfor which he became famous. These pieces exhibit Le Corbusier’s trademark metal detailing and elegant austerity. After World War II Le Corbusier shifted to more functional designs for use in everyday life. These wooden pieces resemble packing crates evoking a rustic design aesthetic rooted in functionality. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Le Corbusier. Furniture and Interiorsis the authoritative book on Le Corbusier’s work as an interior designer. 1959réf. 1434611959. LE CORBUSIER. Salubra. La Deuxieme Collection. 12 pp. illustrated with 14 double-page wallpaper samples 20 single-page monochrome wallpaper samples and a "Clavier de Couleurs" laid down on rear inside cover. Oblong folio 360 x 240 mm. bound in original publisher's cloth-backed illustrated boards. Basel: Salubra 1959. Le Corbusier designed two collections of colours for the Salubra wallpaper company the "Clavier de Couleurs" of 1931 with 43 colours and this 1959 collection with 20 colours. In this second collection reflecting the changes in his views the 20 single colours are assembled on a single clavier. In the first collection he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colours. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere intended to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament of the purist theory of colour. Although not as rare as the legendary first collection this is still rare and even more so in such fine condition. hardcover
