Text is whole some even foxing to pages but. Small 8vo 291 pages. Original marbled boards with leather back and corners leather label on spine. From the library of Rev'd Richard Hill his contemporary bookplate inside front board and his signature on title page. Pencil 'sketch' on frontis. After the young missionary David Brainerd died of tuberculosis at the Edwards home in 1748 Edwards read through Brainerd s manuscript diaries. Impressed he resolved to prepare them for the press. Exalting Brainerd s self-sacrificial faith in the cause of converting the heathen Edwards presented Brainerd as a concrete example of sainthood as laid out in Religious Affections. From Yale University Press site on Edwards works. Reverend Richard Hill's 'cross' of religious affections sketched out in light pencil on blank page facing title page. Does not seem to be a direct connection between this British clergyman and Jonathan Edwards. From the library of American historian of religion and Edwards scholar Roland DeLattre. Messrs. Williams and Smith (R. Tilling, Isle of Wight, printer) hardcover
