EN 20x13 cm. 125 ii pp. Publisher"s cloth binding. Illustrated with various drawings and plans in the text some hand-coloured and five colour engravings hors-texte. Copy with a few spots of oxidation and a reattached spine with the endpapers thorn at the hinges. After around twenty years of professional activity as an artist-architect Raul Lino published in 1918 A Nossa Casa his first book on the problem of modern house design. The book proved to be a publishing success with four editions between 1918-1923 the second of which was published that same year. In line with the republican aim of popular and professional instruction this book is both a narrative of the journey of designing a house - presenting a modern design method and a manual of building principles from sketching to constructive materialisation of the work. With clear recommendations of a practical nature the book is not technical in nature but is aimed at potential clients and builders. Raul Lino Lisbon 1879 - 1975 was a Portuguese architect author of a vast body of work throughout the country and who stood out on the national cultural scene for his theses on the relationship between landscape architecture and tradition. His education involved a period spent in Hannover Germany studying with Khöler and above all Albrecht Haupt. The essays A Nossa Casa 1918 A Casa Portuguesa 1929 Casas Portuguesas 1933 testify to his interest in analysing the values of a national dwelling and the problem of the modern house project.
