Shu Lin is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California Davis CA His current interests include Algebraic Coding Theory Coded Modulation Error Control Systems and Satellite Communications. Tadao Kasami April 12 1930 - March 18 2007 was a noted Japanese information theorist who made significant contributions to error correcting codes. He was the earliest to publish the key ideas for the CYK algorithm separately discovered by Daniel Younger 1967 and John Cocke 1970. Kasami was an IEEE Fellow and received the 1987 Achievement Award from the Institute of Electronics Information and Communications Engineers of Japan and the 1999 IEEE Claude E. Shannon Award. As the demand for data reliability increases coding for error control becomes increasingly important in data transmission systems and has become an integral part of almost all data communication system designs. Various trellis-based soft-decoding algorithms for linear block codes have been devised. New ideas developed in the study of trellis structure of block codes can be used for improving decoding and analyzing the trellis complexity of convolutional codes. These recent developments provide practicing communication engineers with more choices when designing error control systems. A self-published hardcover oil painting anthology by Yicheng Egan Lin b. 1944 a Kaohsiung-based architect and painter. Born in Qishan Kaohsiung County Lin earned his B.A. in architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University 1968 and an M.A. from The Ohio State University 1974 practiced as an architect at HNTB in the United States from 1974 to 1977 and in 1977 returned to Taiwan to open his own architectural firm in Kaohsiung. He taught architectural design at Feng Chia University 1977-1984 and served as associate professor of architecture at National Cheng Kung University 1986-1995. He took up oil painting in the late 1990s with the Kaohsiung Architects Association Oil Painting Club and this volume gathers the work leading up to his 2003 solo exhibition at the Kaohsiung Cultural Center.
