1945réf. 55911Besançon: Syndicat des Instituteurs et Institutrices du Doubs 1945. First edition. Softcover. Good condition. Octavo. 76pp. Original string-bound tan wraps with black lettering on cover. Cover and both title pages with publisher's device. Lectures given at the Franco-Swiss Synod of Porrentruy on July 28 1945 at the Montbéliard Theatre. Dedicated to Henri Barbier's father and mother who died at Bergen-Belsen respectively Ravensbrück. These texts published stirred up controversy in the press. Some descriptions are harsh but meant to be a reminder of authentic facts and indisputable documents. They are accounts of a Buchenwald survivor who was deported in January of 1944 and survived to deliver one of the earliest and most accurate reports on the death-camp organization. Before his deportation Barbier had been a member of the Resistance in the Jura region. His surviving personal files are preserved in the Arolson Archive. Carrez a school teacher and member of the Resistance was a standard-bearer for democratic values. In this lecture he describes the tasks of the school teacher and recounts the strategies under the fierce pressure of the Vichy regime in teachers during the Nazi occupation. Text in French. Very light wear along edges of wraps with very light damp-staining of covers. Block lightly starting at the beginning of second lecture. Block age-toned.
