1906210, 2 [ads] pages. Numerous attractive black and white illustrations in text. "Bachelors are the most charming of entertainers. What woman ever refuses an opportunity to chaperon at a bachelor dinner or studio tea? What debutante does not feel secretly ecstatic at the very idea of looking behind the scenes and peeping into the corners of some famous bachelor menage?" - page 2. "There is no complete compendium for the ambitious bachelor, but his proverbial fare of 'bread and cheese and kisses' needs to be modified to suit present-day needs, and the judicious addition of a few crumbs to his store of provender may be welcome. From these crumbs from many bachelor cupboards, then, may he find an occasional 'crumb of comfort' and a little lift over some hard place along the road. If he finds it herein, the purpose of this book will have been fulfilled." - pages 7-8. Among the twenty-one chapters we find: The Impecunious Bachelor, Bachelor Etiquette, Devils and Grills, A Dissertation on Drinks, Correct Clothes, Carving and Game, Bachelor Bonnes Bouchees, and many more. Binding intact. Prior owner's name atop front free endpaper. Average wear and soiling to decorated blue cloth-covered boards. A sound copy of this cheeky vintage bachelor handbook. 1970ref. 16443JCulver City: Metro-Golwyn-Mayer Studios 1970s. The original "Myrna Loy Building" metal sign from the M.G.M. Hollywood Studio lot. In the 1970s the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio started naming various buildings after their classic film stars. Myrna Loy was alive and well at the time of the naming of her building. This sign was acquired by a gentleman who worked as a carpenter on the lot for many years. His accompanying letter reads: During the middle 1980's 85 to 89 I Michael McGovern worked at the old M.G.M. lot Studios in Culver City California in the Permanent Construction Dept. The lot was sold several times in this time frame. At one point before the now Sony Studios it was owned and named Lorimar Telepictues. When the lot was Lorimar Telepictures they were painting and changing the M.G.M. lot to the new Lorimar "look." Thus the signs Blue and Gold naming the building after the old M.G.M. stars were taken down and replaced with the new signs brown and white that matched the Lorimar colors. I asked my boss if it was OK to keep the signs I changed and he said it was fine with him. Myrna Loy is best known for her portrayal of "Nora Charles" in six Thin Man films with William Powell of the 1930s but also starred in Manhattan Melodrama Libeled Lady Test Pilot The Best Years of our Lives Cheaper by the Dozen and From the Terrace. Her film career spanned more than 50 years Accompanied by a copy of Mr. McGovern's "Prop Maker" ID card. The sign measures 18 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches and presents with some obvious wear from the elements like extremely small areas of rust and signs of use overall in excellent condition. Today the studio lot is owned by Sony and it houses both Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures. The Myrna Loy Building which was the old MGM sound department exists and it still proudly bears her name. Metro-Golwyn-Mayer Studios unknown
