Il cartellonista scende le scale della stazione della metropolitana Porte d'Erewhon si avvicina a un grande cartellone riempito con un poster blu intenso e inizia a incollare l'immagine di un'auto generica situata in un'anonima strada parigina. "Henri Bergson che non amava molto il cinema scrisse in L'evoluzione creatrice che per avere un'autentica intuizione della durata bisognava sperimentarla e prese l'esempio dello zucchero in un bicchiere d'acqua. La lezione sembrava chiara: "Devo aspettare che lo zucchero si sciolga"; è nell'esperienza della visione e dell'attesa quando la mia durata si fonde con quella del mondo che emerge l'intuizione di una realtà in movimento. Ma come si impara ad aspettare in un mondo moderno che sembra essere un flusso costante di immagini continue ma che non cessa mai di estrarre immagini ferme immagini ossessive e poi proietta queste immagini fisse in quello che sembra essere un ciclo perpetuo 'Sugar Water' può in un certo senso essere visto come una vasta metafora dei giorni successivi all'11 settembre vissuti come una sfida all'editto di Bergson: le stesse immagini fisse quasi come pubblicità che si susseguono costantemente nel cuore stesso della nostra vita quotidiana fino a produrre un perfetto equivoco: aspettiamo di vedere il momento in cui l'auto esplode mentre le "persone reali" nel film per la maggior parte aspettano semplicemente la metropolitana e non vedono nulla. Ma può anche essere letto come qualcosa di completamente diverso: la natura quotidiana della violenza della pubblicità priva di soggetto priva di significato con gli stessi annunci PA e la stessa canzone appena udibile che crea il ritmo della colonna sonora in un ciclo che rispecchia la sequenza di immagini sovrapposte sopra il monocromo blu di un cartellone pubblicitario. In che modo il tempo trascorso in attesa che l'immagine successiva si riveli diventa qualcosa di diverso da una vecchia melodia ripetitiva Qui una sorta di ritratto dell'artista come affissore di manifesti."
