réf. 3220266Oblong 4to tinted lithographic title six tinted lithographic plates and tinted lithographic endleaf with vignette; by Peter Herwegen after Hans Brunner apart from light scattered foxing clean and fresh in contemporary dark blue cloth front cover ornamented and lettered in gilt spine ornamented in gilt; lightly rubbed. This scarce album of delicately drawn and masterly lithographed scenes documents salt mining in the mountains near Salzburg.z Salt mining was an arduous task the work was dangerous and not very lucrative by the mid-19sths century. With the development of more industrial methods and the introduction of the railways the price of salt collapsed. To help the impoverished population the house of Habsburg promoted tourism in that region and a number of guides to the area started to be issued. The draughtsman was Hans Brunner a genre painter who was born in 1813 in Munich moved to Salzburg around 1840 where he painted portraits of the aristocracy and populated his genre paintings of everyday-life scenes with putti dwarfs and other mythical creatures. The fine lithographs were carried out by Peter Herwegen who was considered the successor to Neureuther. He worked as Neo-Gothic designer for Munich artisans and produced several albums of lithographs.z Dürrnberg [^gmodern spelling^g], Eigenthum v. Jos. Hinterstoisser,
