The Bartlett Dam was a multiple arch reinforced concrete dam erected on the Verde River 36 miles northeast of Phoenix between 1936-1939. It was the highest dam of its type in existence. It was built by the Dept. of the Interior for the Salt River Water Users Association to store flood water of the Verde River render unnecessary the lowering of the reservoir along the Salt River during growing season and produce hydroelectric power for the region and city of Phoenix. The entire Salt River Project remains controversial to this day because of its initial funding that was guaranteed by the pledge of resident's land as collateral for federal loans to finance the project. Non-landowners were and are not permitted to vote on any issue in regard to the dam or its power generation to this day. The report covers all facets of construction supply and planning for the dam from the initial concrete plant through completion. It is thorough and highly detailed. View shows faint sunning. View shows a group of nicely dressed men in top hats standing on Salt Lake City's Main Street below Third South with a parade float that features antlers and a banner for the 'Elks Eleven O'Clock Toast.' The men are standing in front of Ackerman Printing and a tavern whose signs advertises Salt Lake Brewing's Lager Beer. The Walker Mercantile building is prominent in the background. We believe this image was taken during the Salt Lake City Elks convention in August of 1902. "Yesterday the opening day of the National convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was great. The weather was delightful not too warm and there were clouds enough to temper the rays of the sun. The great parade was a feature that attracted thousands and the excursus in the Tabernacle filled that immense auditorium." - Salt Lake Tribune 1902-08-03. unknown books
