1954réf. 197591954. Film Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan. Archive of 6 original silver gelatin vintage photographs used as lobby cards in movie theaters. Columbia Pictures 1960. All are 8" x 10" and in glossy black and white. On The Waterfront is based on several Pulitzer Prize-winning articles about an ex-prize fighter turned New Jersey longshoreman who stands up to his corrupt union bosses and their extortion violence and racketeering. The film is well-known for Brando's use of method acting and established a more stripped-down and improvisational style that changed the industry. The film also marked a transition in American filmmaking from the big-budget productions of the west coast to the rough-and-tumble style of the east coast. The film earned 12 Academy Award nominations and won 8 and is considered groundbreaking for its political themes and unconventional style. Photos feature images of Brando in the film alongside Eva Marie Saint along with a still image on Brando on a boat and being questioned by reporters. All photos capture the gritty texture and realism of the film. Most have the films title production credits and copyright date in lower white margin with one having a stamp on verso reading: "Motion Picture & TV Research Service." All in very good condition. unknown books
1983réf. 238161983. Science fiction and comics fan publishing archive from the mid 1980s documenting the convergence of traditional fanzine culture with licensed media franchises gaming comics publishing and the increasingly commercial science fiction marketplace. Three issues of The 4 Color Flash report on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology DC Comics' acquisition of Star Trek changing comic book prices books games and contemporary genre news. Produced as inexpensive black and white fan periodicals with hand drawn mastheads cartoons densely set columns and emphatic headlines the issues preserve the editorial vocabulary of amateur science fiction publishing while reporting on an industry being reshaped by corporate licensing and the growing economic reach of fan culture. Jennings Robert. The 4 Color Flash. Three issues. Oxford Massachusetts. Early 1980s. Black and white illustrated fold-over periodicals. 8.5" x 11" each. 8 pages. 1 The 4 Color Flash. No. 2. 1980s. Front page headline: "SCIENTOLOGY GURU PENS 1.5 MILLION WORD SF NOVEL" reporting on L. Ron Hubbard's return to science fiction and the enormous scale of the project. The issue combines genre publishing news with the regular departments "Games Play" "Book Bender" and "Reality!" incorporating gaming book commentary cartoons and science fiction criticism within the same fan publication. 2 The 4 Color Flash. No. 5. 1980s. Front page headline: "DC RELEASES STAR TREK COMIC FINALLY" covering DC Comics' newly issued Star Trek comic during the company's 1980s licensing of the franchise. The page reproduces Star Trek artwork and discusses the comic within a broader field of contemporary science fiction and comics news. 3 The 4 Color Flash. No. 6. 1980s. Front page headline: "DC RAISES COMIC PRICES TO 75¢ SEPT. 1st" recording a retail price increase as news of immediate concern to comics readers. An accompanying illustration and densely printed columns situate the announcement within the everyday economics of comics fandom where changes in cover price directly affected readers and collectors. The three issues belong to a period in which boundaries between science fiction fandom comic book readership gaming and mass media franchises were becoming increasingly porous. The Star Trek coverage records the migration of a television and film property into DC's comic publishing program while the Hubbard headline captures another intersection between science fiction's older literary institutions and a controversial public movement founded by one of the genre's former pulp writers. Coverage of DC's 75¢ price increase supplies a more granular record of the economics experienced by readers themselves alongside recurring columns devoted to games and books. The format remains rooted in fan publishing: black and white printing crowded columns cartoons informal graphics and headlines designed to communicate quickly within a specialist community rather than emulate the production standards of commercial magazines. Light handling wear and toning visible with minor edge wear; leaves appear clean and intact in the supplied images. Overall very good condition. A compact record of mid 1980s science fiction fandom as comics gaming licensed entertainment genre publishing and fan commentary increasingly occupied the same cultural marketplace. unknown books

The band however was founded in the West Midlands by bassist Martin Blunt in 1988 and relocated to Northwich Cheshire home of their new singer Tim Burgess and manager Steve Harrison in early 1990. It was there they formed the Dead Dead Good record label having had no luck in securing a record contract and released their first single "Indian Rope" in January 1990 which quickly became a number one hit on the British indie charts. The band has since released fourteen studio albums thirteen of which charted in the top 40 of the UK Albums Chart with three reaching number one and have had 22 top 40 singles including four top ten entries in the UK Singles Chart.
