Such ephemeral items survive significantly less frequently than the album is was in. This album was offered "to our American friends". In a few pages the French Line has tried to group a series of pictures which give the best resume of our land of France. .it includes the familiar sight of the port that welcomes our guests upon their arrival. Then the celebrated buildings and harmonious perspectives of Paris . the gaiety of the vintage the winding ribbon the highway and the screen of poplars bordering a peaceful canal or twisting river. stand out once more as magnificent witnesses of our history. .Indeed all this in a way is France in a nutshell. The Compagnie Générale Transatlantique CGT and commonly named "Transat" typically known overseas as the French Line was a French shipping company. Established in 1855 by the brothers Émile and Issac Péreire under the name Compagnie Générale Maritime the company was entrusted by the French government to transport mails to North America. In 1861 the name of the company was changed to Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. The company's first vessel the SS Washington had its maiden voyage on 15 June 1864. After a period of trials and errors in the late 19th century the company under the direction of its presidents Jules Charles-Roux and John Dal Piaz gained fame in the 1910s and 1930s with its prestigious ocean liners such as SS Paris SS Île de France and especially SS Normandie. Fragilized by the Second World War the company regained its fame in 1962 with the famous SS France which suffered major competition from air transport and was retired from service in 1974. Contrary to what its name suggests the company was not content with operating just in the North Atlantic route. It also offered service to Central America and even for a time the Pacific coast. From the beginning of the 20th century it offered crossings between Marseille and Algiers creating a tourist circuit in North Africa in the 1920s. In the 1930s the company briefly became involved in aviation through Air France Translatlantique. Other than operating ocean liners the company also had a significant fleet of freighters. The cargo service was started in the 1900s. The ocean liners of CGt were often symbolic works of art of their time; they were intended to represent an image of France abroad. The quality of services on board such as that of meals and wines had attracted wealthy clientele including Americans at the time of the Prohibition in the United States. Years after the company's demise its heritage continues to attract collectors and is showcased in exhibitions. L'Atlantique, Journal of The French Line unknown

Self published by the variously infamous Dr. Tumblety this pamphlet is a screed against his brief imprisonment for taking part in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln which turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. Years later Chief Inspector John George Littlechild of Scotland Yard believed Tumblety to be Jack the Ripper. In a letter to journalist George R. Sims he writes that "amongst the suspects and to my mind a very likely one was a Dr. T. He was an American quack named Tumblety and was at one time a frequent visitor to London and on those occasions constantly brought under the notice of police there being a large dossier concerning him at Scotland Yard. he was not known as a sadist but his feelings toward women were remarkable and bitter in the extreme a fact on record. Tumblety was arrested at the time of the murders in connection with unnatural offences and charged at Marlborough Street remanded on bail jumped his bail and got away to Boulogne. He shortly left and was never heard from again. It was believed he committed suicide but certain it is that from this time the "Ripper" murders came to an end." VERY GOOD. Shows a section of discoloration of the front cover three small chips from the covers marginal wear along the edges and corners otherwise given its fragility is in excellent condition with the binding secure the text clean and completely unmarked and the wraps bright and distinct. As pictured. Published by the Author hardcover
