Lo scritto faceva parte del fortunato "Almanacco igienico popolare" pubblicato in diversi volumi dal 1866 al 1905. L'autore descrive vari alimenti dal punto di vista dietetico e nutrizionale fornendo anche consigli in cucina (carne, uova, formaggi, pane, funghi, grassi e oli, verdure e frutta, caffe, te, cioccolata, erbe aromatiche e droghe, sale, falsificazione di alimenti, gelati, veleni ecc...). Singolare la parte dedicata al tabacco e la cocaina. Mantegazza consiglia vivamente di preferire il consumo di cocaina fornendo alcuni consigli per la scelta, conservazione e modalità di assunzione. The writing belonged to the lucky "Almanacco igienico popolare" published in different volumes from 1866 until 1905. The author describes different food from dietetical and nutritional point of view providing suggestions in cooking (meat, eggs, cheese, bread, mushrooms, fats, vegetables and fruit, coffee, tea, chocolate, aromatic herbs and drugs, salt, falsification of food, poisons ecc...). Interesting part dedicated to tobacco and cocaine. the suggestion of Mantegazza is that of use preferably cocaine instead of tobacco provind suggestions for choice, preservation and consumption.
