Malgré la définition du vin comme la "plus saine des boissons" par Pasteur, l'alcoolisation systématique des Poilus en 1914 et l'auréole cocardière du vin de l'entre-deux-guerres, les maîtres et les manuels scolaires alertent les familles contre les méfaits de l'alcool. En revanche, images et chromos donnent une vision aimable et idyllique de chérubins qui boivent du vin ou du champagne. On distribue aux écoliers des buvards, crayons et protège-cahiers vantant une marque d'alcool. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, pouvoirs publics et institutions sociales s'investissent dans la lutte contre l'alcoolisme. Le Président du Conseil fait distribuer du lait dans les écoles et les murs se couvrent de l'affiche "Quand les parents boivent... les enfants trinquent". Pourtant, lors du Tour de France, les enfants courent après les camions publicitaires qui distribuent casquettes, chapeaux en papier... aux couleurs de marques d'apéritifs, de bière et de vin. Des fabricants de jouets manufacturent innocemment des dînettes renfermant des bouteilles d'apéritif, une cave miniature avec tonneaux, des automates qui s'enivrent avec drôlerie, un zèbre en peluche ou en caoutchouc, symbole d'une marque d'apéritif, des camions et des fourgons de livraison de vin, de bière ou d'alcool... Sans oublier les livres pour enfants qui ne sont pas épargnés et les jeux de société qui foisonnent, comme le "picotin" ou les "toupies de bar" de la fin du XIXe siècle, jusqu'aux puzzles, planches de découpages, yoyos, taquins, jeux de patience, jeux de sept familles, etc. Une Référence !
