1822Best.-Nr. 2479Paris: Delpech 1822. Very good. Lithograph on cream wove paper 10 3/4 x 14 7/8 inches 273 x 378 mm the full sheet. In very good condition with minor handling wear including a soft fold along the right sheet edge in the margin. Top margin likely very slightly trimmed. And two spots of light yellow discoloration in the left margin all well outside of the image area. A second state of 5 impression after the addition of the text in the lower margin including the name of the printer François de Villain. Delteil 45 ii/iv. The artwork serves as an illustration for Lord Byron's 1814 narrative poem Lara depicting the faithful page Khaled supporting the wounded armored knight mounted on a battle horse. Delpech unknown

Firm taken over by his sons the brothers Jean François and Michel Ange in 1822 and expanded into publishing. In 1829 got brevet to act as lithographic printers but ceased to print themselves after 1839 contracting out work to Auguste Bry. Only published lithographs specialists in albums and in Géricault Charlet and Bellangé. Last brother died in 1871.
