rif. 235986Wien: Böhlau 2023. 425 S., Abb. Kart. *neuwertig* Giotto (1334) is the first European artist about whom it is possible to write following the schema of ?life and work?. The situation of the sources, however, is complicated: On Giotto?s life, there are ? on the one hand ? biographical accounts from the mid-fourteenth century onwards that responded to various ideological requirements (patriotism, humanism, Renaissance ideology, cult of the artist); on the other, there is extensive documentary material from Giotto?s lifetime, which seems to reflect less the biography of an artist than that of a bourgeois businessman resolutely climbing the social ladder. The present volume focuses on this second aspect of the Giotto figure?s double life relating it to the form of existence of the pre-modern artist.

2013rif. SBBIH-LMQQAUQUWGPODamiani 2013. paperback. Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing fanning inscriptions margin notes yellowing staining on edge or cover or pages bumps scuffs etc etc sometimes multiple of these. It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order at least not without checking with us first although we don't always have time to check. We aim to dispatch prompty the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only. Damiani paperback

On 13 October he was arrested and charged under German military law with the serious offence of "undermining the morale of the armed forces" which could be punished by death on the guillotine. After some days in prison he was released following the surprise intervention of an SS general. However he was arrested again on 31 December and charged with "insulting the German currency." This appeared to be the result of a letter he had written to his publisher in which he had complained that the inflation rate was eroding the value of his royalties. On 9 January 1945 he was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp where accounts of his death differ; one source suggests that Reck was executed there 23 February shot in the neck Genickschuss while the official death certificate recorded a death from typhus on February 16.
