Fourth volume in Thomson Burtis's eleven-book Rex Lee Flying Stories written by a WWI Army Air Service pilot. Ships from the USA quickly & w/care. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SYNOPSIS & HISTORY: An antique single-volume hardcover juvenile aviation novel Rex Lee Sky Trailer represents the fourth entry in Thomson Burtis's eleven-volume flying adventure series. Published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1929 the storyline follows daring young aviator Rex Lee as he pilots his biplane into the West Virginia mountains to visit his companion Larry McCrann. Dangers escalate upon discovering two downed aircraft on Mount Baldy thrusting the hero into a bitter political and physical feud between the rival Callhoun and Chatfield mountain families. Partnering with a local physician Rex navigates treacherous mountain updrafts sabotage and aerial dogfights to trail a secretive outlaw across the ridge lines. Bound in mustard-yellow cloth covers with bold black and orange stamped title lettering and biplane cover art the volume features custom pictorial endpapers and a glossy monochrome frontispiece plate. Bibliographical analysis of the dust jacket points to a First Edition First Printing state as the front flap and rear panel advertise series titles strictly through this fourth volume Rex Lee: Ranger of the Sky as title #3 and Sky Trailer as #4 displaying no subsequent titles published later in 1929 or 1930. The original multi-color jacket displays dramatic biplane combat artwork wrapping across the front panel and spine. Thomson Burtis crafted the series directly from his extensive background as a World War I U.S. Army Air Service aviator test pilot and aerial photographer. Unlike many syndicate-produced juvenile series of the era that relied on uncredited ghostwriters Burtis brought authentic cockpit procedures flight mechanics and military air lore to early youth literature. Released during the height of the post-Lindbergh aviation boom the narrative captures interwar American fascination with commercial flying aerial barnstorming and radio technology. Original 1920s Grosset & Dunlap paper dust jackets suffered extreme attrition among young readers leaving surviving jacketed early printings increasingly uncommon. Grosset & Dunlap hardcover
